Luzerne County officials say no charges will be filed in fatal 2016 shooting

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Commonwealth Health announced Wednesday plans to hire about 160 nurses and additional support staff at several hospitals this year, including Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.</p><p>The increased staffing coincides with department improvements, expanded service at all six of the company&#8217;s local hospitals and recent infrastructure improvements in Wilkes-Barre and Scranton. A $40 million tower project is under way at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Regional Hospital of Scranton is constructing a $15 million home for its Heart &amp; Vascular Institute, and Moses Taylor recently invested $15 million in upgrades and expansions.</p><p>Registered nurses at all levels of experience and in all specialties are invited to apply. Besides Wilkes-Barre General, positions will be filled at Berwick Hospital Center, First Hospital, Moses Taylor Hospital, Regional Hospital of Scranton and Tyler Memorial Hospital. Key areas are the emergency department, intensive and critical care, medical/surgical and behavioral health.</p><p>Clinical and non-clinical support staff positions will also be available, including licensed practical nurses and nurse&#8217;s aides.</p><p>&#8220;This is part of our ongoing concentration to continue providing the people of Northeastern Pennsylvania with a high quality of patient care,&#8221; said Cor Catena, CEO of Commonwealth Health in a statement. &#8220;Nurses are at the front lines of patient care and we understand the important role they play. We also believe it is vital to surround those nurses with the best support staff which is why we are hiring other positions as well.&#8221;</p><p>Commonwealth Health hospitals offer a benefit package that includes tuition assistance, retirement plan contributions, professional support and opportunities for advancement.</p><style>
