High Schools: Meyers boys basketball rallies to win Division 2 title

First turbine to arrive at new Salem power plant

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Showcased in a corner at Rodano&#8217;s on Friday were portraits of David Bowie, model Bella Hadid and Marilyn Monroe. Standing among them was their creator, Elaine Walton.</p><p>Walton, originally from Calera, Alabama, moved to Northeastern Pennsylvania to live with her boyfriend, Bill Lynch. The pair met while playing poker online.</p><p>&#8220;He kept beating me,&#8221; she joked.</p><p>She has been painting since she was a child and was active in art contests and fairs in Alabama. But in Wilkes-Barre, she &#8220;became more active&#8221; about her artwork when she joined the Wyoming Valley Art League. Currently, she does Third Friday art activities around the area.</p><p>&#8220;There are a lot more opportunities here,&#8221; she noted of her chances to exhibit her work since coming north. &#8220;I&#8217;m excited to see arts cultivated.&#8221;</p><p>Though the Art League is more active in the summer, Walton said Frank Rodano encouraged her to continue bringing the art downtown during the winter.</p><p>So she did.</p><p>The art she had on display at the Public Square bar and restaurant included multi-media works and marker pieces. Typically, the marker art is done in black and white. But one stood out &#8212; a portrait of late musician David Bowie. His painting had a pop of color.</p><p>&#8220;I love doing portraits,&#8221; Walton said.</p><p>She also had two pieces separated from the group &#8212; a depiction of Marilyn Monroe and a Queen of Hearts card in marker. The Monroe piece featured all types of items that Walton randomly found, from glitter to buttons and a Santa figurine.</p><p>Making a special appearance at the restaurant were Walton&#8217;s mother and stepfather, Wanda and Joey Posey.</p><p>Wanda said Walton&#8217;s artistic nature was &#8220;overwhelming,&#8221; especially in her younger years. The Poseys said they encouraged Walton&#8217;s artsy side.</p><p>&#8220;Even at a young age, she drew such detailed pictures,&#8221; Wanda recalled.</p><p>&#8220;Her images sparkle,&#8221; Joey added. &#8220;They just stand out.&#8221;</p><p>In addition to being an accomplished painter, Walton also writes poetry. She said she began writing in middle school, but it wasn&#8217;t until the early 2000s when she had some of her writings published.</p><style>
