<p>Can we envision the destruction of public education in the City of Wilkes-Barre?</p><p>It has started and is escalating.</p><p>The Wilkes-Barre School Board was set on a consolidation plan for two of the city&#8217;s three high schools, an act of discrimination against the district&#8217;s most disadvantaged students in the third school.</p><p>The plan was to place a consolidated school in a commercial zone where schools are prohibited, on 3 acres, ignoring the 35-acre recommendation for a school that size and other significant issues that brought a rejection by the zoning board.</p><p>That rejection came after the district spent over a million dollars in the design of the high school.</p><p>The board then decided to move the new high school out of the city. It hired an architectural firm &#8212; at a cost of $51,000 &#8212; to evaluate three sites .</p><p>An impact study, plus common sense, dictates that moving the high schools will be devastating to the city.</p><p>This board is out of control.</p><p>The Save Our Schools organization has exhausted all avenues of assistance for the children, faculty and staff in maintaining the neighborhood-school system. The alternative plan maintains GAR and Meyers and places a new Coughlin High School at the Plains Solomon site, maintaining the neighborhood concept.</p><p>SOS has no choice but to seek intervention from the state and aggressively replace board members up for re-election.</p><p><strong>Richard A.
