Consumer Watchdog: Do your homework when choosing a degree program

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Whether it&#8217;s the athletes, coaches, front office staff, athletic directors or training staff, it takes a small community to build a winning atmosphere, no matter the level of the sport.</p><p>Success is like a 1,000-piece puzzle. Without each and every one, the job isn&#8217;t done.</p><p>Away From the Game profiles movers and shakers in the Wyoming Valley athletics world, and this week we&#8217;re mixing it up. We&#8217;re featuring the three new local college hockey coaches: King&#8217;s College head men&#8217;s coach Stephen Mallaro, King&#8217;s head women&#8217;s coach Jen Kindret and Wilkes University women&#8217;s head coach Stephanie Newmark.</p><p>Each of the three coaches have uphill battles ahead of them. All three are first-time head coaches responsible for shaping brand new programs preparing to make their debuts next fall.</p><p>The Wilkes men&#8217;s program is set to debut in 2018-19.</p><p><strong>Rundown</strong></p><p><iframe src="https://w.soundcloud.com/player/?url=https%3A//api.soundcloud.com/tracks/309112098&amp;color=ff5500&amp;auto_play=false&amp;hide_related=false&amp;show_comments=true&amp;show_user=true&amp;show_reposts=false" width="100%" height="166"></iframe></p><p>&#8212; King&#8217;s College head men&#8217;s coach Stephen Mallaro &#8212; <strong>1:43</strong> &#8212; is a Syracuse, N.Y. native who played at Division III powerhouse SUNY Oswego. In his final two seasons at Oswego, Mallaro was a starter on two Frozen Four teams.</p><p>&#8212; King&#8217;s College head women&#8217;s coach Jen Kindret &#8212; <strong>18:01</strong> &#8212; is a native of Winnipeg, Kindret has experience coaching and playing at the Division I level. She spent two years as a graduate assistant coach at Lindenwood University and played at Robert Morris University, where she was a four-year letter winner.</p><p>&#8212; New Wilkes University coach Stephanie Newmark &#8212; <strong>29:32 &#8212;</strong> is a native of Australia. Unlike Mallaro and Kindret, Newmark has experience helping build up a brand new program.
