Injured 76ers rookie Ben Simmons won’t play this season

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Service medals and ribbons, including the Bronze Star for achievement, were presented this week to the family of late World War II veteran Sgt. John J. Ostrum of the U.S. Army Air Forces.</p><p>Ostrum was a Pearl Harbor survivor, reports say.</p><p>Congressman Matt Cartwright, D-Moosic, presented the honors to Ostrum&#8217;s daughters, Sharon Walton and Jill Ostrum-Williams, and son John Ostrum.</p><p>Besides the Bronze Star, Sgt. Ostrum was posthumously awarded the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Honorable Service Lapel Button WWII, and Sharpshooter Badge &amp; Carbine Bar.</p><p>The ceremony was held at Cartwright&#8217;s office, 20 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Wilkes-Barre.</p><p>Cartwright also made a Congressional Record entry to recognize Thomas Williams of Mountain Top, former state director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development for Pennsylvania.</p><p>Williams was appointed to the USDA by President Obama in July 2009 and retired Jan. 7. Prior to his tenure with the USDA, Williams served as a congressional aide to former U.S. Rep. Paul Kanjorski.</p><style>
