Hockey enthusiasts honor the late Brian Madry at scholarship games

<p>WILKES-BARRE TWP. &#8212; Children and their parents enjoyed a morning out during story time Saturday at Barnes &amp; Noble.</p><p>As cases of cabin fever disappeared, almost a dozen children sat mesmerized as Deborah Castner read &#8220;Egg&#8221; and &#8220;When Spring Comes&#8221; during story time.</p><p>&#8220;What are all these?&#8221; Castner asked the group of children sitting on benches, as she pointed to a book.</p><p>&#8220;Chickens!&#8221; the group responded.</p><p>&#8220;Chicks,&#8221; she replied, noting the difference.</p><p>As she read the Kevin Henkes book, Castner, a school teacher during the week, would ask the children questions about the stories, such as, &#8220;What color is that?&#8221; and &#8220;They did what?&#8221;</p><p>Anthony Argento, 4, of Forty Fort, knew all the answers. Having read the book before gave him an edge.</p><p>The book talks about four eggs &#8212; a blue, pink, yellow and green egg. Three of the eggs hatch, but one doesn&#8217;t. The blue, pink and yellow eggs become chicks while the green egg takes longer &#8212; spoiler alert &#8212; because it&#8217;s a crocodile.</p><p>The green animals are Anthony&#8217;s favorite, he said.</p><p>Anthony&#8217;s father, John, said his son has a hand puppet of the animal.</p><p>Anthony and his father, John, are regulars at the Arena Hub store. Though his favorite color wasn&#8217;t part of the &#8220;Egg&#8221; book, Anthony had ample time to create an orange egg because the children in attendance were able to color different egg-related coloring sheets as well as assemble &#8220;egg-based&#8221; character pieces.</p><p>&#8220;Do you want to read another one?&#8221; Castner asked as she pulled out the book about spring.</p><p>The book talks about spring coming and going as well as what happens in the spring. As Castner held up the book, she asked what the flowers depicted were doing.</p><p>Norah Banks, 4, had the correct answer.</p><p>&#8220;The flowers were dying,&#8221; Banks, of Wyoming, said. As is typical of spring, the Laura Dronzek-illustrated book showed snow coming.</p><p>Sarah and Sam Gomelko came with their mother, Abbey, and sister, Phoebe, to the reading. It was the Gomelkos&#8217; first time at the weekly event.</p><p>Abbey said it was the children&#8217;s first time out of the house since the major snowstorm this past Tuesday.</p><p>&#8220;I had been out, but I wasn&#8217;t taking all three of them out,&#8221; Abbey said, noting Phoebe, 15 months, was still in a baby carrier.</p><p>At least the activities Saturday will allow the children to bring a little springtime atmosphere into their home.</p><p>Sam, 4, and Sarah, 3, were going to &#8220;decorate&#8221; their upstairs bedroom of the Kingston home with their character pieces.</p><p><ins>For other local news stories, <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/category/local" target="_blank">click here</a>.</ins></p><style>
