Federal judge dismisses Foster suit against Crestwood

<p>HARVEYS LAKE &#8212; Winter Storm Stella created a challenge for many road departments, but Harveys Lake crews were able to keep up, according to Councilwoman Michell&#8217;e Boice.</p><p>&#8220;Our roads were some of the best in the area,&#8221; Boice said at Tuesday&#8217;s council meeting. &#8220;It was the worst storm in 23 years.&#8221;</p><p>Stella rolled into the region early Tuesday, March 14, causing near blizzard conditions and snow accumulations of 2 to 3 inches an hour. When it was all said and done, parts of the Back Mountain were left covered in more than 2 feet of snow.</p><p>Boice said the borough&#8217;s road department, which consists of two full-time employees, maintained 14 miles of roads throughout the storm.</p><p>The two full-time sewer department employees were on standby as backups if needed, she said.</p><p>Boice was monitoring social media and news outlets, and she did not see any Harveys Lake residents complaining they did not see any snow plows for hours, unlike in other towns.</p><p>&#8220;We are very blessed,&#8221; she said.</p><p>In other news, Fred Lubnow, the aquatic director at Princeton Hydro, provided council members an update on the hydrilla-eradication plan set for this spring.</p><p>Hydrilla is a fast-growing, invasive aquatic plant that can reproduce from vegetation fragments. If left unchecked, hydrilla could overtake the lake, growing to create a mat-like covering on the surface and choking out other vegetation and fish.</p><p>Under Lubnow&#8217;s advisement, the borough applied for a grant from the Department of Environmental Protection last year to remove the aquatic plant.</p><p>As a result, this spring, Lubnow&#8217;s team will begin the careful process of killing and removing hydrilla.</p><p>&#8220;The water has to reach a certain temperature for the plant to accept the herbicide,&#8221; he said.</p><p>The next Harveys Lake Borough Council meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, in the municipal building.</p><style>
