Some balk as Seattle seeks to spend more money on homeless

<p>Luzerne County officials are inviting the public to numerous upcoming events to celebrate National County Government Month in April:</p><p><strong>&#8226; March 31, 11 a.m.:</strong> Pinwheel dedication with the Luzerne County Child Advocacy Center in the courthouse rotunda and south lawn to raise awareness about child abuse.</p><p><strong>&#8226; April 8, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.:</strong> Open house at Luzerne County 911, 100 Young St., Hanover Township, to recognize National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week. Representatives from the Luzerne County District Attorney&#8217;s Office, Emergency Management Agency and sheriff&#8217;s department also will be in attendance.</p><p><strong>&#8226; April 11, 10 a.m.:</strong> Narcan training sponsored by the Luzerne/Wyoming Counties Drug &amp; Alcohol Program along with the Pennsylvania Department of Health in the courthouse council meeting room.</p><p><strong>&#8226; April 11, 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.:</strong> Guided tours of the Luzerne County Courthouse, starting in the rotunda.</p><p><strong>&#8226; April 11, 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.:</strong> County job recruitment event and informational displays in the courthouse rotunda.</p><p><strong>&#8226; April 11, 6 p.m.:</strong> County council meeting in the courthouse council meeting room.</p><p>&#8226; <strong>April 12, 6 p.m.:</strong> Countywide crime watch meeting in the courthouse council meeting room.</p><p><strong>&#8226; April 25, 5 p.m.:</strong> 40-plus year county employee celebration in the courthouse rotunda.</p><p><strong>&#8226; April 25, 6 p.m.:</strong> County council meeting in the courthouse council meeting room.</p><p><strong>&#8226; April 25, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.:</strong> Guided tours of the Luzerne County Courthouse starting in the rotunda.</p><p><strong>&#8226; April 28, 6:30 p.m.:</strong> Candlelight vigil sponsored by Autism Awareness of NEPA in the courthouse rotunda</p><p>The AFSCME union is sponsoring a food drive to benefit the St. Vincent DePaul Soup Kitchen. Nonperishable items will be collected from March 31 through April 11 at collection bins in county buildings.</p><p>Diaper collection boxes also will be set up in the county manager&#8217;s office and human services building in April to provide diapers for Luzerne County Children and Youth foster children and clients.</p><style>
