Dallas School District parent seeks to make Pa. free of teacher strikes

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; After mulling options for several years, King&#8217;s College has developed plans for the historic Memorial Presbyterian Church on North Street. Following some renovations and a small addition on the west side, the building will become the new home of the campus chapel and ministry, currently on Jackson Street.</p><p>&#8220;It will be used for general assembly, some meetings, and the chapel,&#8221; Chief Financial Officer John Loyack said.</p><p>Purchased in 2011, initial talk centered on turning the church into the campus theater. But Loyack said the theatre department prefers the current George P. Maffei II Theatre, located in the Administration Building, and the church seemed better suited to another use.</p><p>The church, built in the 1870s, sits across North Street from the northern end of the campus. It will be renovated in a way that assures it can be listed on the Registry of Historic Places, Loyack said.</p><p>The fate of the J. Carroll McCormick Campus Ministry Center building isn&#8217;t firmed up yet, but Loyack said a student learning support center is one possibility, including tutoring and other resources for students who need some help. &#8220;That would mean we may redo the library&#8221; as well, Loyack said.</p><p>Current space used for student support would likely be earmarked for one of the college&#8217;s other programs, most likely the biology department.</p><p>&#8220;We are always looking for existing buildings that can be converted for our use,&#8221; said Loyack.</p><style>
