With specially smoked cuisine and vast variety, Stookey’s hits the spot

<p>WYOMING &#8212; For Dave Fetch, it&#8217;s all about tradition.</p><p>Fetch, who learned the art of butchering from his father and grandfather and who has now passed on all that knowledge to his son, Dave III, took a break recently to talk about his shop, which was voted best butcher by Times Leader readers for the second straight year.</p><p>&#8220;I guess when customers want something good, they come here,&#8221; Fetch, 63, said.</p><p>Just ask longtime customer Ted Yanus, of Wyoming, who said he can easily understand why Fetch&#8217;s was voted the best again.</p><p>&#8220;They have the best meats in the area,&#8221; Yanus said. &#8220;They make the best kielbasa and porketta and stuffed pork chops. And their hams are worth killing for.&#8221;</p><p>It&#8217;s that kind of customer appreciation that has kept Fetch&#8217;s in business since 1922, when Dave&#8217;s grandfather, George Fetch, started the business. After years of operating a market in Wyoming, Fetch opened a larger supermarket in Plymouth from 1982 to 2010. The business returned to Wyoming in 2010, offering favorites like sausage, kielbasa, ham, pork chops, steaks, roasts, chicken and much more.</p><p>Here&#8217;s what Fetch says on his Facebook page:</p><p>&#8220;Our items change as the seasons change. Wide variety of fresh beef, pork and chicken. Holiday items as well. Many items that you see, are made on site, right in our little shop. If you don&#8217;t see something you would like, just ask. We would be happy to accommodate your needs. Stop in or give us a call today.&#8221;</p><p>You can feel the friendliness of the store and its owners, from the way they greet you at the door to the classic signs that clearly (and largely) state each item and its price. One sign boasts that the store sells &#8220;the best $4 hoagie in the area.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;The key is we say the best $4 hoagie,&#8221; he said with a laugh. &#8220;Not the best $5 hoagie &#8212; the best $4 hoagie.&#8221;</p><p>Fetch says the holidays are always the busiest &#8212; Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas are busiest &#8212; so get your orders in early.</p><p>Dave III, 32, said a lot of the business comes from word of mouth &#8212; satisfied customers who rave about the store to their families and friends.</p><p>&#8220;If you put out a good product, people will come back, and they will tell their friends,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The key is we keep all of our ingredients fresh.&#8221;</p><p>As Dave Jr. watched his son cut meats, he looked around the store and thought about all of the meat cutters who worked in the store over the years.</p><p>&#8220;Those guys knew how to cut meat,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Fetch&#8217;s was a craft butcher shop before it became a trend.&#8221;</p><p>The store display dazzles customers as they walk through the door. They can also buy Fetch&#8217;s homemade horseradish &#8212; white or red &#8212; plus all the other side dishes like cole slaw, pasta salad and more.</p><p>There is even a section dedicated to the Seattle Mariners Major League Baseball team &#8212; Dave III&#8217;s favorite.</p><p>&#8220;I just loved the way Ken Griffey Jr. played the game,&#8221; he said.</p><p>And as far as cutting meat and offering quality products, customers love the way Fetch&#8217;s plays that game.</p><style>
