Wilkes-Barre to make another attempt at reimbursement for storm cleanup costs

<p>Jordan Montgomery was set to be the opening day starter for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Thursday in Buffalo.</p><p>But according to a New York Post report, both Montgomery and Trenton Thunder ace Chad Green &#8212; who are both competing for the Yankees&#8217; No. 5 starting pitcher job &#8212; will both pitch for Single-A Tampa on Thursday instead.</p><p>RailRiders manager Al Pedrique confirmed that Montgomery will pitch for the Tampa Yankees Thursday.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;m not sure what they&#8217;re going to do with my pitch limit or whatever, but I&#8217;m just going to try and stay as sharp as I can, throw strikes and kind of keep going where I was going in spring training,&#8221; Montgomery said.</p><p>With at least a 90-percent chance of rain in Thursday&#8217;s forecast in both Buffalo and Erie, where the Thunder will be open their schedule, the moves were made to avoid having to push back the pitchers&#8217; starts.</p><p>The RailRiders&#8217; rotation is now Brady Lail, Johnny Barbato, Dietrich Enns, a pitcher to be determined and Luis Cessa.</p><p><strong>Refsnyder a spark plug</strong></p><p>Not only will RailRiders utility man Rob Refsnyder play all over the field for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre this season, with Pedrique saying he&#8217;ll see time at third base, first base, right field and second base, the second-year manager expects him to be a &#8220;spark plug in the middle of the lineup&#8221; as well.</p><p>&#8220;We know he can hit and we&#8217;re hoping he&#8217;ll have a good start right away and help us offensively,&#8221; Pedrique said. &#8220;He&#8217;s in the right spot right now. He can&#8217;t wait for the season to start. He knows that he&#8217;s going to play a lot. As a player that&#8217;s what you want, to get opportunities to be in the lineup on a daily basis.&#8221;</p><p>At 26 years old, Refsnyder understands this is a big season for him.</p><p>This is his last year with minor-league options, so he has to make the most out of his opportunities, whether he&#8217;s with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre or up with the Yankees.</p><p>&#8220;Last year at the big-league level I was doing a little bit of utility, so I&#8217;ll probably be doing that here. I&#8217;m excited honestly,&#8221; Refsnyder said. &#8220;Playing a bunch of different positions helps and I&#8217;m looking forward to this year.&#8221;</p><p><strong>The Yankees&#8217; Zobrist?</strong></p><p>With a clogged lineup throughout an organization &#8212; similar to what the New York Yankees are experiencing &#8212; sometimes the best way to make the 25-man big-league roster is if you&#8217;re an uber-utility player. Like a Ben Zobrist or a Brock Holt.</p><p>RailRiders&#8217; shortstop Tyler Wade is all about making the bigs, and he wants to do it as soon as possible. And if that means he&#8217;s the Yankees&#8217; version of Zobrist or Holt, sign him up.</p><p>&#8220;I love it, love it,&#8221; Wade said of the idea of being the Yankees&#8217; utility man down the line. &#8220;Didi (Gregorious) and Starlin (Castro) are an important part of that team. I feel like my role to get to the big leagues is to be that guy and give as many days off as possible and be in the lineup.</p><p>&#8220;I feel like the game has changed so much these days that it&#8217;s important to have a guy like that on the roster. I&#8217;m all about it and I&#8217;m excited to play the role.&#8221;</p><p>Wade said he&#8217;s comfortable playing second and third base, shortstop and every position in the outfield.</p><p>He&#8217;s projected to be the RailRiders&#8217; opening day shortstop, according to the International League media guide.</p><p><strong>RailRiders on YES</strong></p><p>The RailRiders announced Tuesday that New York Yankees fans will get a behind the scenes look of the Triple-A affiliate this season.</p><p>Starting Friday, May 1, YES Network will premier its new original series &#8220;Homegrown: The Path to Pinstripes.&#8221; The show will air at 11 p.m.</p><p>&#8220;Homegrown&#8221; will present the players, coaches and other members of the organization both on and off the field.
