<p>Taxpayers take heart &#8212; living in Pennsylvania might not be as bad as you think.</p><p>The state falls almost right in the middle of all 50 states when compared by tax burdens, according to a recent <a href="https://wallethub.com/edu/states-with-highest-lowest-tax-burden/20494/" target="_blank">WalletHub survey.</a></p><p>According to the website, a tax burden is a ratio &#8212; not to be confused with tax rates &#8212; that measures &#8220;the exact proportion of total personal income residents pay toward state and local taxes.&#8221;</p><p>To determine which states have the biggest burdens, analysts with WalletHub compared all 50 states against three tax types that make up a state&#8217;s tax burden &#8212; property, individual income, and sales and excise taxes &#8212; and calculated the total as a percentage of total personal income in the state.</p><p>In Pennsylvania, the total tax burden sits at 8.52 percent, which ranks 24th highest nationwide.</p><p>The worst states? New York has the highest tax burden at 12.94 percent.
