<p>The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders dropped their 2017 season opener to the Buffalo Bisons on Saturday afternoon, as the top prospect on the Buffalo Bisons&#8217; roster put on a show in his Triple-A baseball debut.</p><p>Bisons first baseman Rowdy Tellez homered in each of his first two at-bats to lead the Bisons to a 4-2 Opening Day victory over the Scranton/Wilkes Barre RailRiders.</p><p>Tellez is rated the No. 6 prospect in the Toronto Blue Jays organization by Baseball America. He delivered solo shots in the second and fourth off Scranton/Wilkes-Barre starter Johnny Barbato.</p><p>In the fifth, Jake Elmore hit into a 4-6-3 double play that scored Dwight Smith for a 3-0 margin.</p><p>The RailRiders rallied in the sixth as outfielder Clint Frazier&#8217;s RBI double chased starter Jarrett Grube from the game. Frazier later scored from third on catcher Kyle Higashioka&#8217;s groundout, but the RailRiders left the bases loaded when first baseman Ji-Man Choi struck out.</p><p>&#8220;All of a sudden we made a phone call to him and said you&#8217;ve got to pitch today,&#8221; Bisons manager Bobby Meachem said of Grube, who made a spot start for Casey Lawerence Saturday. &#8220;To give us at least five innings was outstanding.&#8221;</p><p>In the seventh, the Bisons salted their lead. With two outs, nine-hole hitter Jason Leblebijian drew a walk from reliever Giovanny Gallegos, took second on a Higashioka passed ball and scored on Chris Coghlan&#8217;s single to right.</p><p>Buffalo right-hander Danny Barnes retired all four men he faced for his first save of the year.</p><p><strong>Off the rails</strong></p><p>Rob Refsnyder went 1-for-3 with a walk. He was robbed of more by a diving Darrell Ceciliani in center field to end the visiting eighth.</p><p>Mason Williams posted a pair of hits and twice lined out to Buffalo shortstop and RailRiders alum Gregorio Petit.</p><p>Al Pedrique&#8217;s season-opening lineup sported five left-handed hitters and four right-handed bats.</p><p><strong>Counting the house</strong></p><p>Paid attendance was 7,418.</p><p><strong>Up next</strong></p><p>The Bisons and RailRiders play a doubleheader on Sunday, with the first game starting at 12:35 p.m. The first of two seven-inning games will pit Scranton/Wilkes-Barre southpaw Dietrich Enns against veteran right-hander Mat Latos. Latos, 29, is a 6-foot-6 right-hander with a 71-58 big-league record. He won 14 or more games three times in the majors and was eighth in the Cy Young voting in 2010, when he went 14-10 for the Padres.
