WBS Penguins shutout streak against Phantoms ends in 2-1 shootout loss

<p>MOOSIC &#8212; Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 22-year-olds Tyler Wade and Clint Frazier and 25-year-old Mark Payton have defied odds in their first full season at the Triple-A level.</p><p>With the International League&#8217;s mean-average age for positions players at 26.8 years old this season, the trio is playing beyond their years.</p><p>After batting 4-for-5 with an RBI and a pair of stolen bases, Wade is batting .550 in six games this season. Payton has continued his hot hitting of late, going 3-for-5 with a double an RBI and a pair of runs scored. Frazier was 1-for-3 with an RBI as well.</p><p>The trio&#8217;s performance has been noticed by manager Al Pedrique.</p><p>&#8220;Every pitch, every at-bat, they work very hard. Those players, they pay attention to detail,&#8221; Pedrique said. &#8220;It&#8217;s always nice to see these kids coming through in the situations they did tonight.&#8221;</p><p><strong>Tejada looking to get past errors</strong></p><p>In back-to-back games, RailRiders middle infielder has led off the game with an error. But unlike Tuesday night, the run didn&#8217;t score Wednesday.</p><p>Tejada more than made up for it with his bat in the 10-6 win, going 1-for-2 with a three-run home run, three walks and three runs.</p><p>&#8220;I put my best swing on it,&#8221; Tejada said of his home run. &#8220;It was a good pitch to hit and a good situation. It was a fastball right down the middle and it was a good situation in the (2-0) count to take a chance.&#8221;</p><p>Pedrique isn&#8217;t worried about Tejada&#8217;s fielding, but just thinks he needs to check into the game from the beginning.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s more the concentration than anything else because the preparation is there,&#8221; Pedrique said. &#8220;He works real hard during (batting practice) taking ground balls. The matter is he just needs to be ready from pitch No. 1 and he didn&#8217;t do it last night, he didn&#8217;t do it tonight. I had a conversation with him and he&#8217;s fine.&#8221;</p><p><strong>Webb proud of performance</strong></p><p>RailRiders reliever Tyler Webb was the difference Wednesday.</p><p>With the game getting out of hand in the top of the fifth inning, and the IronPigs storming back from a 7-0 deficit to make it a one-run game, Webb came in and settled everything down. The 6-foot-6 righty pitched 3.2 strong innings of shutout baseball. He struck out six batters.</p><p>After a rough outing in Buffalo, getting tattooed for six runs in one inning, Webb was able to gain some confidence and momentum heading into his next appearance.</p><p>&#8220;Confidence goes a long way and to have a bounce back one like this is really big,&#8221; Webb said. &#8220;I&#8217;m just going to keep building on this hopefully.&#8221;</p><style>
