<p>WRIGHT TWP. &#8212; Mike Williams was granted the timeout. One point later than he wanted.</p><p>The Crestwood head coach, after questioning why he wasn&#8217;t given it at the exact moment, walked back to the huddle to fire his Comets up.</p><p>And rile them up Williams did.</p><p>Crestwood fought off five match points to force a fifth set, then the Comets handed Wyoming Valley West its first conference loss, 3-2, on Monday evening. Crestwood used a 6-2 run to close out a contest that lasted more than two hours and saw the final four sets separated by a combined 10 points.</p><p>Set scores were 25-18, 22-25, 23-25, 29-27 and 15-12.</p><p>The win also snaps a four-game losing streak for Crestwood (3-4).</p><p>&#8220;I thought I clearly called the timeout, but hey, it happens,&#8221; Williams said. &#8220;But I also think it did fire our team up at the right time. This was a playoff game for us. We were 2-4 with Valley West today and North Pocono on Thursday. We can&#8217;t afford any more losses, and we can&#8217;t drop back any more in the seedings.</p><p>&#8220;We definitely want to make the playoff tournament, and this is a stepping stone toward our goal. If we lose this one, we are pretty far behind the eight ball.&#8221;</p><p>It looked bleak for Williams&#8217; squad, down 24-19 in the set and trailing 2-1 in the match. Just one point would end the night.</p><p>Noah Modrovsky did his job, making sure each serve got over the net. And Kenny Brush did the rest as the senior recorded three straight kills in the run to knot the fourth set at 24. It went back and forth, tied at 27-27, before a carrying violation on Valley West coupled with a point by junior setter Michael Williams sealed the 29-27 victory.</p><p>&#8220;When I saw Jeremy (Jones) go down with an injury in that fourth set, I said that we were winning this one for him, and we were straight up snapping this losing streak,&#8221; Brush said. &#8220;Valley West has a good team, but I knew we were winning this. Hopefully, this will help propel us, and we can build momentum to grab a playoff spot.&#8221;</p><p>Crestwood, behind Michael Williams&#8217; serve, jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the race to 15 before Valley West &#8211; thanks to three kills by attacker Tyler Klienbach &#8211; sparked a 9-4 run to take a 10-9 lead.</p><p>Again, enter Brush.</p><p>This time, the senior hit the same spot on the floor with four straight serves, and the front row gave him support. Two kills and a block by Noah Jackson, and a back-row free-ball point by Modrovsky lifted the Comets to a 14-10 lead.</p><p>&#8220;Before the game, I had a nice talk with Kenny and told him that this was his chance to grab his spot,&#8221; Mike Williams said. &#8220;I told him that this would help him to solidify where he was at. And he responded. He played a nice match today, especially in the clutch.&#8221;</p><p>Valley West (5-1) was its own worst enemy on this night.</p><p>The Spartans had 37 attack errors, and added 15 service errors. Couple that with more than 20 whistled violations by the officials, and Valley West handed Crestwood 70-plus points.</p><p>&#8220;I told our guys throughout the match that we handed them too many free points,&#8221; Spartans coach RJ Tomascik said. &#8220;Crestwood might have had a 2-4 record, but there is no way they are a 2-4 team. They played a lot of tough teams early, and they&#8217;re talented. It was just one of those games where we didn&#8217;t play our best. We were thinking too much, and it led to more errors.&#8221;</p><p>The Comets used a 12-2 run in the opening set to break out to a 20-10 in the first before Valley West dug deep to squeak out victories in the second (25-22) and third (25-23).</p><p>And it looked like the undefeated mark would stay in tact as a combined seven kills from Klienbach and Joey Burridge put the Spartans in prime position with five match points in the fourth.</p><p>&#8220;I think that letdown carried over to the fifth set,&#8221; Tomascik said. &#8220;You try to get them to focus past that set, and what just happened. But that&#8217;s part of the momentum of the game, and Crestwood had it at that point.&#8221;</p><p>Jackson had 12 kills to pace Crestwood, while Michael Williams added 26 assist and six kills. Valley West was led by Klienbach&#8217;s 11 kills, while teammates Burridge and Davis Weaver combined for 14 spikes.</p><p><strong>Dallas 3,</strong></p><p><strong>Lake-Lehman 0</strong></p><p>Dallas defeated its Back Mountain rival by scores of 25-18, 25-13, 25-22.</p><p>Danny Harpersberger had 14 service points, 10 kills and seven aces for Dallas. Corbin Thompson had five kills, five points and an ace. Caleb Hill posted 20 assists, seven points and three kills. Logan Evanosky had seven kills and seven points.</p><p>Jonathan Raspen had seven points and two aces for Lehman. Andrew Jubis had six points and two blocks. Justin Lansberry added two points and two digs.</p><p><strong>Nanticoke 3, Coughlin 0</strong></p><p>The Trojans earned a 25-17, 25-12, 25-16 sweep, led by Alec Divers (four aces, two kills, 23 assists, three blocks, two digs)</p><p>Josh Baranowski (four aces, 16 kills, two digs), Justin Casey (11 kills, two digs) and Luke Butczynski (five service points, one ace, eight kills, 1 assist, one block, one dig).</p><p>Derek Whitesell (two kills, one block, two assists, seven service points, one dig) and Chris Kosik (two kills, one block, two assists, one service point, two digs) topped the Crusaders.</p><style>
