<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Charges are pending against a man who battled sheriff&#8217;s deputies attempting to take him into custody Monday after he bypassed Luzerne County Courthouse security, officials said.</p><p>County Sheriff Brian M. Szumski said the man was told he was in possession of &#8220;prohibited items,&#8221; and ignored officials&#8217; instructions to stop before making his way to the third floor. Deputies there ordered the man to stop, but he fled down the stairs to a basement bustling with activity, including a line of potential jurors waiting to be cleared by security.</p><p>Several deputies tackled and restrained the man, later identified by his mother as Andy Louis. Court records say Louis, 20, of Wilkes-Barre, was scheduled to appear Monday before Judge David W. Lupas for a status conference on a felony drug charge.</p><p>&#8220;After being told he was under arrest, he resisted the entire time while trying to be cuffed,&#8221; Szumski said.</p><p>After deputies cuffed Louis, he was brought into a nearby waiting room where he continued to resist. Deputies could be seen struggling to subdue Louis as he was held up against the wall and screamed for them to stop. He eventually calmed down and was removed from the courthouse without further incident.</p><p>Francesse Dupiton, 60, identified herself as Louis&#8217; mother. Breaking down in tears at times, she said security warned Louis he wasn&#8217;t allowed to take a metal hair pick into the courthouse. Her son, whom she said takes medication for bipolar disorder, entered the courthouse anyway. He was told after being subdued his options were the hospital or jail, said the mother.</p><p>&#8220;I feel OK now at least,&#8221; Dupiton, also of Wilkes-Barre, said after Louis was led out of the courthouse. &#8220;He&#8217;s not going to jail.&#8221;</p><p>Louis will be charged, Szumski said, but he didn&#8217;t specify what counts he would be facing.
