<p>Women and families in Pennsylvania need your help.</p><p>As a Board member of Maternal and Family Health Services, I recently learned that Pennsylvania SB 300, a bill that will deny health care services to thousands of women in our communities has passed the Pennsylvania Senate Finance Committee and is headed to the Senate floor.</p><p>PA Senate Bill 300 is an attack on women&#8217;s health and part of a national effort to dismantle the family planning safety net. The bill seeks to eliminate funding to safety net providers across Pennsylvania, including MFHS. The funding Pennsylvania receives for family planning services and reproductive health care will be reallocated through a priority system that eliminates the diverse provider network administered by MFHS.</p><p>This bill will deny women access to high quality, affordable health care, including cancer screenings, gynecological exams, birth control, pregnancy testing, STD screenings and treatment, education and counseling. It would disenfranchise people in the most medically underserved areas of the state who are in need of reproductive health care.</p><p>Last year, 25,000 patients were served through the MFHS network of providers and direct services in 15 northeast Pennsylvania counties.</p><p>Please call your state senator with the following message: &#8220;SB 300 is dangerous for women&#8217;s health care and would dismantle the family planning safety net. It will eliminate funding to safety net providers across Pennsylvania, including Maternal and Family Health Services, which serves women and families in your district. This bill will deny women access to high quality, affordable health care, including cancer cancer screenings, gynecological exams, birth control, pregnancy testing, STD screenings and treatment, education and counseling. It would deny care to people in the most medically underserved areas of the state in need of reproductive health care.
