Misericordia University holds donation drive for Domestic Violence

<p>Crews have made a dent in the work on Interstate 81 in Lackawanna County as part of a 3-week condensed scheduled.</p><p>Work on Monday took place in the southbound lanes of I-81 between Exit 178A (Wilkes Barre/Scranton International Airport - Avoca) and Exit 186 (Dunmore-Drinker Street).</p><p>PennDOT spokesman James May said the following work was completed:</p><p>&#8226; Patched 30 tons worth of potholes</p><p>&#8226; Crack-sealed 3 miles of the southbound passing lane</p><p>&#8226; Picked 91 bags of litter (plus additional large items like tires and mattresses)</p><p>&#8226; Patched three bridge decks</p><p>&#8226; Flushed the salt from 3 bridges</p><p>&#8226; Cut and chipped enough brush to fill one and a half tandem dump trucks (15 tons each)</p><p>Work is scheduled to resume at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday in the same area, but the closure will be in the driving lane as opposed to the passing lane. Crews will be working in the area for the remainder of the week.</p><p>Motorists are strongly urged to avoid the area during this time and should consider using the I-476 Turnpike/toll between Clarks Summit and Pittston.</p><p>May explained in an email that crews opted to use a 3-week condensed schedule to improve travel for motorists during the busy summer travel season between Memorial Day and Labor Day.</p><p>From May 8 to May 20, work will be completed in the northbound lanes of I-81 in the same area where Monday&#8217;s work was completed.</p><p>Saturdays will serve as rain dates or makeup days for any issues that arise.</p><style>
