Six Luzerne County school boards feature contested races in primary

<p>PLYMOUTH &#8212; An event in Plymouth on Saturday asked area business people to &#8220;stick&#8221; with the borough.</p><p>Plymouth Alive, a group dedicated to the revitalization of Plymouth, held its first annual Stick With Us! Food Festival from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday. The food-on-a-stick-themed festival is an offshoot of the annual Kielbasa Festival, another event held annually by Plymouth Alive.</p><p>&#8220;We were looking for a new event,&#8221; said Terry Womelsdorf, president of Plymouth Alive. &#8220;And we wanted to do something that we could include the Kielbasa Festival vendors so that way they would &#8216;stick with us.&#8217;&#8221;</p><p>In the 14 years that Plymouth Alive has been running the Kielbasa Festival, it has slowly grown from a small event of around a dozen vendors to between 80 and 90 vendors.</p><p>&#8220;We have 17 or 18 vendors here today,&#8221; Womelsdorf said. &#8220;We&#8217;re hoping to slowly grow it into something bigger, just like the Kielbasa Festival.&#8221;</p><p>Plymouth Alive uses funds raised by events like the Kielbasa Festival and now Stick With Us! to make donations in Plymouth, with thousands of dollars being donated to various groups like the Plymouth Public Library, the Plymouth Police Department and the American Legion.</p><p>Stick With Us! attracted a variety of vendors, many of whom are regulars to the Kielbasa Festival. Some of those vendors found a way to incorporate the &#8220;stick&#8221; theme into their traditional menu, adding kebabs, corn dogs and even grilled pickles on a stick.</p><p>Wayne Schwartz was at the festival selling barbecued treats from Uncle Buck&#8217;s BBQ, a restaurant on Plymouth&#8217;s Main Street. He said that events like this are good for a &#8220;hometown&#8221; feel.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s been a good turnout, and we&#8217;re seeing a lot of the same faces that we see at the Kielbasa Festival,&#8221; Schwartz said. &#8220;I hope the slogan spreads the word and gets people to come out.&#8221;</p><p>Barb Kobusky was selling another staple of the Kielbasa Festival, foods spiced with a special blend called &#8220;MeeSo Corny,&#8221; a spice designed for corn but also a variety of other foods.</p><p>&#8220;We normally sell roasted corn at the Kielbasa Festival, but it&#8217;s not the season yet,&#8221; Kobusky said. &#8220;So instead we made kebabs with the spice to show that you can use it on more than just corn.&#8221;</p><p>Plymouth&#8217;s mayor, Dorothy Petrosky, was at the festival, saying that she needed to complement Plymouth Alive for the work they do in the borough.</p><p>&#8220;Their minds are always working, just looking for some new way to bring new people into the town, for business and maybe to even live here,&#8221; Petrosky said.</p><p>Petrosky said that she hopes events like these can continue to be successful for Plymouth.</p><p>&#8220;If we all &#8216;stick&#8217; together, then we&#8217;ll be successful,&#8221; Petrosky said.</p><style>
