Police: Man found dead on sidewalk in Wilkes-Barre had medical emergency

<p>DURYEA &#8212; Police say an officer had to use an opioid-reversal drug on a woman who was found unresponsive in a bathroom by her children.</p><p>It was the second time this month the same policeman helped save someone who had overdosed, authorities say.</p><p>Officer Charles Swisher was dispatched to the 200 block of Swetland Street at 8:44 p.m. Wednesday for a report of an unresponsive 28-year-old, according to police. The woman&#8217;s children reportedly alerted a neighbor, who then called 911 and began CPR.</p><p>The police report did not identify the woman.</p><p>Swisher arrived and assisted with CPR on the victim, who police say had overdosed on heroin. Swisher then administered the antidote Naloxone and was able to revive her.</p><p>The woman was taken to a local medical facility by EMS, and the children were placed into the custody of Luzerne County Children and Youth Services.</p><p>The overdose victim now faces three counts of endangering the welfare of children.</p><p>Swisher and Officer Brian Russo were <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/657129/duryea-mayor-praises-borough-officers-for-saving-od-victim" target="_blank">recognized by Duryea Mayor Keith Moss</a> at this week&#8217;s borough council meeting for using Naloxone to save the life of a teenage overdose victim. That incident occurred the night of May 5.</p><p>Swisher helped save a third person from an overdose last summer without the use of the opioid-blocking antidote.</p><style>
