Mistakes cost the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Thursday night, falling to the Syracuse Chiefs 11-5.The RailRiders posted a four-run rally in the top of the ninth but the game was already out of reach. Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (16-15) committed five errors, one off the single-game franchise record first set at Syracuse on May 17, 1997 in the loss as Syracuse (11-18) won its third game in its last 14.Syracuse plated three unearned runs in a first inning that saw Scranton/Wilkes-Barre charged with three errors.Dustin Fowler got the RailRiders on the board when his MiLB-best sixth triple pushed Tyler Wade home in the third inning, but the Chiefs immediately responded. Syracuse scored four in the home half of the frame to chase starter Bryan Mitchell.Crooked numbers in the fourth and fifth had Syracuse in front, 11-1, a margin that held until the ninth. Facing reliever Rafael Martin, two-run hits by Kyle Higashioka and Fowler rounded out the scoring.Syracuse right-hander Kyle McGowin (1-2) picked up the win after allowing one run on five hits over five innings. Opposing starter Bryan Mitchell (0-1) took the loss after allowing five runs and three hits over 2.1 innings.For the RailRiders, Wade doubled and singled twice, scoring two runs. Fowler tripled and doubled, driving home three runs.The four-game series continues at 6:35 p.m. on Friday evening.
