Dorrance Twp. to use $79K gaming grant for rec facility upgrades

Wyoming Seminary&#8217;s Andrew Schucraft and Eamon Gibbons advanced to the District 2 Class 2A boys singles tennis semifinals as each posted three wins in straight sets in the opening round Thursday.The duo will be facing familiar competition in Scranton Prep players in the semifinals at 1 p.m. Friday at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre. Seminary defeated Prep for the district boys team title on Tuesday. In the event of inclement weather, the matches will be moved to the Kingston Racquet Club.Schucraft, the No. 4 seed, faces top-seeded Tarquin McGurrin from Prep. Second-seeded Gibbons gets Prep&#8217;s Jack Habeeb, the sixth seed.Schucraft opened with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Honesdale&#8217;s Nick Theobald. He defeated Valley View&#8217;s Bobby Craig 6-1, 6-2 in the second round and Holy Cross&#8217; Jimmy Tressler 6-2, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.Gibbons was even more impressive. He topped Honesdale&#8217;s Eli Harvey 6-0, 6-0 in the first round and followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Holy Cross&#8217; Logan Gregory in the second round. Gibbons then defeated Holy Redeemer&#8217;s Chris Kocon 6-1, 6-0 to move to the semifinals.MMI Prep&#8217;s Jonathan Smith also made it to the quarterfinals where he lost 6-1, 6-2 to Habeeb.Wyoming Valley Conference players had a rough time in the 3A bracket. Crestwood&#8217;s Brandon Krupa was the only one to move to the quarterfinals where he lost 6-0, 6-0 to top-seed Bailey Harris of Abington Heights.Krupa made it to the quarters with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Delaware Valley&#8217;s Joe Noreika and a 6-1, 5-7, 6-2 victory over Pittston Area&#8217;s Jason Homschak.BOYS VOLLEYBALLHazleton Area 3,Pocono Mtn. East 2The Cougars posted a non-conference win Wednesday 22-25, 25-12, 25-12, 24-26, 15-12.Matt Borestski and William Barrientos had 14 service points each for Hazleton Area. Aaron Kellmer added 10 kills.Holy Redeemer 3,Dallas 0The Royals won 25-11, 25-13, 25-12 for their 65th consecutive WVC victory.Jimmy Stepanski had 15 assists and nine service points for Redeemer. Matt Blaum had four kills, four points and three aces. Chet Brennan added three kills, two blocks and an assist. Matt Adler had a kill.For Dallas, Logan Evanosky had four kills, two aces and a block.GIRLS LACROSSEDelaware Valley 21,Tunkhannock 5Maecy Chlebowski and Bailey Fedun all scored four goals for Delaware Valley.Quinlan Hamersley scored twice goals for Tunkhannock. Makayla Franko, Eve Lohmann and Tamara St. Clair had one each.Wyo. Seminary 20,Wyoming Area 5Katie Romanowski scored seven times in Wyoming Seminary&#8217;s victory on Wednesday.Christina Kilyanek, Olivia Meuser, Parker Callahan and Genevieve Nardone all scored two goals for the Blue Knights.Lila Donnelly and Lindsay Pozaic had two goals each for Wyoming Area.<style>
