<p>DALLAS &#8212; Machell Avenue will be closed to all traffic from the intersection with Monroe Avenue to Route 415 starting Monday, according to an email from borough Manager Tracey Carr on Friday.</p><p>The road closure is expected to last about three weeks as Machell Avenue&#8217;s approach to the planned Dallas roundabout is realigned to a right angle, said PennDOT spokesman Mike Taluto.</p><p>The redesign of Machell Avenue&#8217;s approach was scheduled to occur in April, but utility and weather delays pushed the project&#8217;s schedule back, Taluto said.</p><p>Drivers can expect traffic delays as detours guide them through residential streets.</p><p>Increased police traffic enforcement will be implemented to safeguard residential streets due to the spike in vehicles, according to the email, Mayor Timothy J. Carroll and police Chief James Drury.</p><p>Road construction crews are slated to begin redesigning Lake Street&#8217;s approach to the roundabout in August, Taluto said.</p><p>The Dallas roundabout was initially proposed by a 2005 Back Mountain Area Transportation Study conducted by Edwards and Kelcey, a New Jersey-based engineering firm, as a way to control the flow of traffic through the center of Dallas.</p><p>The study also predicted the Back Mountain region would continue to grow as Yalick Farms development in Dallas Township continues to build additional housing and business spaces; Misericordia University expands educational services; plus a growing population in Harveys Lake Borough.</p><p>The roundabout will replace a five-way intersection at Main, Church and Lake streets, Machell Avenue and Route 415.</p><p>Roundabout construct plans call for a traffic oval consisting of a 19-foot traffic lane with a 16-foot truck apron near the center to provide additional room for an ambulance to navigate around vehicles that may be stopped in the circle.</p><p>The entire roundabout project is estimated to finish in 2019, according to filed plans.</p><style>
