Car plows into Times Square crowd; 1 dead, about 20 injured

<p>FORTY FORT &#8212; A man who claimed an alcohol-fueled argument led to the accidental shooting of his brother is now facing trial.</p><p>Jeffery Santee, 44, allegedly shot <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/641179/police-brothers-argument-leads-to-shotgun-shooting-in-swoyersville" target="_blank">his brother, Chris, at Jeffery&#8217;s home in Swoyersville in March</a>. At his preliminary hearing Thursday, Jeffery Santee saw a misdemeanor charge of recklessly endangering another person sent to county court.</p><p>Meanwhile, a felony count of aggravated assault and a misdemeanor count of simple assault with a deadly weapon were withdrawn.</p><p>Jeffery Santee looked relieved about the outcome after signing papers with District Judge David Barilla. He even let out a sigh.</p><p>Jeffery shot his brother just after midnight March 10 at his residence at 166 Dennison St. There was no information on Chris&#8217; condition.</p><p>According to a criminal complaint:</p><p>Chris, who gets violent when using alcohol, was drinking Southern Comfort and making comments about &#8220;the mother of their children.&#8221;</p><p>After Chris struck Jeffery in the head and face, Jeffery countered by throwing a plate and pot of chili at his brother.</p><p>Chris then left the residence for the porch, which gave Jeffery a chance to retrieve a 12-gauge shotgun from his bedroom in an attempt to scare his brother.</p><p>Jeffery discarded two rounds from the shotgun and placed them in a vase on the dresser after his 9-year-old daughter, who is unnamed in court papers, asked him to stop.</p><p>On the porch, Jeffery said his brother was &#8220;threatening him,&#8221; and when he attempted to cycle the gun, a third round discharged into Chris&#8217; abdomen.</p><p>Jeffery told police he had forgotten there was a third round still loaded in the gun.</p><p>After realizing his brother had been shot, Jeffery ordered the witness to call 911.</p><p>Jeffery was released on $200,000 unsecured bail. He has a formal arraignment 10 a.m. Aug. 3 in front of Luzerne County Judge Joseph Sklarosky Jr.</p><style>
