St. Nicks-St. Mary’s students participate in World of Animals Art Contest

WYOMING &#8212; Wyoming Area has a building tradition where classes give back in the form of scholarships. Some Wyoming Area graduates of the Pittston Hospital Class of 1982 decided to award a scholarship and in 2012 they joined the Scholarship Celebration program at Wyoming Area and continue to award a scholarship each year. The Warrior Pride scholarship was initiated by the WA class of 1989 on the occasion of their 25th high school reunion in 2015. This scholarship is still part of the program. Recipients of these two awards are selected by these donors selection committees.The tradition grows each year with other classes joining the scholarship programs and each scholarship develops their own criteria for selection for these awards.There are ten new scholarships this year: Richard G. Belza Memorial Scholarship, Sarah J. Dymond Elementary School Scholarship, The lt. Adam Kalmanowicz Post 833 Exeter American Legion Scholarship, The Prokop &amp; Malsky Family Scholarship For The Arts, Stephan E. Sokach Memorial Scholarship, West Pittston High School Alumni Association Scholarship, West Pittston Tomorrow Scholarship, Wyoming Area Boys &amp; Girls Soccer Parents Scholarship, Wyoming Area Class of 2016 Gives Back Scholarship and Wyoming Area Class of 2006 Gives Back Scholars.The Eighth Annual Scholarship Celebration will be held at 5:30 p.m., May 25, in the high school cafeteria. Some sixty-two seniors will receive local scholarships totaling approximately $ 175,000. Since this program began in 2009, 60- new scholarships have been added and there are several new ones to be developed for next year&#8217;s celebration.
