Nine batters, one hit, no runs.Hazleton Area, though, got in sync the next time against Scranton pitcher Sam Peck. Especially senior Megan Trivelpiece.Trivelpiece blasted a three-run homer to right in a four-run third and then helped close out the victory with a two-run triple in a six-run fifth as Hazleton Area defeated Scranton 10-0 in a District 2/4 Class 6A softball semifinal game.&#8220;I was just so happy for her because it&#8217;s her senior year,&#8221; Hazleton Area coach Heather Natt said. &#8220;She&#8217;s just seeing the ball so well. She&#8217;s on fire right now and hopefully it carries through the rest of districts and hopefully the state tournament for us.&#8221;Hazleton Area (18-3 overall) will have a long layoff until the tournament title game on May 31 at a site to be determined. The Cougars will play the winner of Wednesday&#8217;s Williamsport at Delaware Valley game.Hazleton Area will lock up the D2-6A championship with a win in the tournament title game. The program has 15 district championships, most by any Wyoming Valley Conference team since the PIAA held its first state softball tournament in 1975. The Cougars have won five consecutive District 2 championships, all at Class 4A before the PIAA went to six classes this year.Tiana Treon had the only Cougars&#8217; hit in the first trip through the lineup when she ripped a single down the right-field line to start the second inning.The first two Cougars were retired to start the third before lead-off hitter Taylor Kaschak walked. Becca Rossi followed with a sizzling grounder for an infield hit. Trivelpiece then made it 3-0 with her blast to right. Treon then collected her second single of the game, again sending the ball down the right-field line, and later scored on an error.&#8220;Taylor and Rebecca did a great job getting on base,&#8221; Trivelpiece said. &#8220;I was just trying to hit them in a get the team some runs.&#8221;After a 1-2-3 fourth, Hazleton Area was back at it again in the fifth. Trivelpiece had a two-run triple to right and scored on Treon&#8217;s groundout. Erika Book and Kaschak later added RBI singles, with Kaschak&#8217;s hit ending the game with one out in the inning due to the 10-run rule.Natt surmised her players just needed to get their timing down against Peck after facing Holy Redeemer fireballer Morgan Bienkowski in a scrimmage last week.&#8220;We were coming off Holy Redeemer. We went up and scrimmaged them on Friday,&#8221; Hazleton Area&#8217;s second-year coach said. &#8220;It took us a little bit to adjust to (Peck) and adjust to the change-up.
