Wilkes to offer certificates programs in creative writing

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Police say what was initially a<a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/local/659926/chemical-issue-causes-evacuation-of-apartment-building-in-wilkes-barre" target="_blank"> chemical issue at a residence on Stanton Street</a> is now being treated as a drug investigation after a meth-manufacturing site was found inside.</p><p>Four row homes on Stanton Street were evacuated at approximately 11:30 p.m. Tuesday due to the appearance of a &#8220;chemical haze,&#8221; according to Wilkes-Barre Fire Chief Jay Delaney.</p><p>According to Delaney, three of the four homes were occupied, ranging from 253 to 247 Stanton St. The residence at 251 is vacant due to construction.</p><p>Delaney said crews were initially called out for a fire in the basement. Delaney said that when arriving on scene, fire crews found the issue to be one of a &#8220;chemical&#8221; nature.</p><p>Wilkes-Barre Police detectives later discovered an inactive methamphetamine lab inside one of the residences, but noted the lab had recently been active. Investigators removed several items of evidence and determined the area to be safe.</p><p>A woman in handcuffs was taken to police headquarters for questioning.</p><p>The investigation continues by the Wilkes-Barre City Police Department and the Luzerne County Drug Task Force.
