Slight chance of showers, thunderstorms as weekend approaches

<p>SPRING BROOK TWP. &#8212; A pursuit that started in Lackawanna County ended in Luzerne County when officers used the Pursuit Intervention Technique, also know as PIT, maneuver to end the chase.</p><p>According to the police report, an officer responded to a report of a trespasser at the Pennsylvania American Water treatment facility on Aston Mountain Road in Spring Brook Township, Lackawanna County, at 10:45 p.m. Tuesday.</p><p>The officer observed a 2008 Ford Fusion in the area occupied by Michael Giannetti, 24, of Old Forge, and Vanessa Chiavacci, 32, of Old Forge. Giannetti was identified as the driver.</p><p>Police said that as the officer pulled up to the Giannetti&#8217;s vehicle, Giannetti fled the area toward Route 502, and the officer pursued.</p><p>The pursuit led police through Moosic, and officers allege Giannetti repeatedly ignored speed and stop signs and repeatedly left the lanes of travel. At one point, Giannetti nearly collided with a vehicle turning from Route 11 to Route 502 as he sped through a stop light, according to police.</p><p>Police said Giannetti then fled into Avoca and turned onto Church Street and then Spring Street. Officers utilized the PIT maneuver to stop Giannetti&#8217;s vehicle at the intersection of Spring and Carroll streets.</p><p>Giannetti then allegedly fled on foot into a nearby field, and his vehicle traveled through a fence and into a nearby yard. Officers were able to take him into custody.</p><p>Police allege that Chiavacci was found in possession of a straw containing a powdery residue, and she was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.</p><p>When speaking with police, Giannetti allegedly showed signs of intoxication. Giannetti said he fled because he knew he had no inspection or insurance for his vehicle, according to police.</p><p>Giannetti also reportedly told police he had his license plate removed by police in March due to an insurance cancellation, so he found the dealer&#8217;s plate in his trunk and put it on the vehicle instead.</p><p>Giannetti also allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana hours before the pursuit.</p><p>Court dockets for Giannetti and Chiavacci could not be immediately found.</p><style>
