<p>Maestro Lawrence Loh will step down as music director and conductor for the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic after the 2017-2018 season.</p><p>He was recently named music director of the West Virginia Symphony Orchestra. Loh&#8217;s tenure with the NEPA Philharmonic will conclude on June 30, 2018, marking 13 years as music director. For the past two seasons, Loh has also held the position of Music Director of Symphoria (Syracuse NY), and he will remain in that position.</p><p>Now in its 78th season, the WVSO is approximately three times the budget size of the NEPA Philharmonic, and their season includes numerous classical, pops, holiday, youth concerts and regional tours.</p><p>NEPA Philharmonic&#8217;s Executive Director Nancy Sanderson said, &#8220;This new position is a step upward in Larry&#8217;s advancing career. Maestro Loh was chosen by the West Virginia Symphony after a two year nationwide search that included 167 applicants and 6 finalists.&#8221;</p><p>The Philharmonic&#8217;s upcoming 2017-2018 season will be a year long celebration for music lovers throughout NEPA. It will also be bittersweet, Loh said.</p><p>&#8220;I am forever indebted to the musicians, staff, board and our wonderful audience for giving me the opportunity to lead the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic as Music Director,&#8221; he wrote. &#8220;Over the past 12 years, I&#8217;ve had some of the most wonderful musical experiences of my career. Even though the 2017-18 season will be my last with the Philharmonic, I hope to return as a guest conductor in the future.&#8221;</p><p>A search committee will be formed immediately to begin the process of finding the Philharmonic&#8217;s next music director. The search will be a two year process in which applications will be reviewed and interviews will be conducted to identify finalists. These finalists will conduct the Philharmonic during the 2018-2019 season as a part of the search process. The Philharmonic hopes to have a new music director in place for the 2019-2020 season.</p><p>For his final season as music director of the Philharmonic, Maestro Loh has planned an exciting season beginning with the upcoming free Independence Day concerts in Scranton on July 3 and Wilkes-Barre on July 4. The main season of masterworks, pops, holiday, and youth concerts will begin in September. Details on concert offerings, subscription packages, and sponsorship opportunities will be announced in June.</p><style>
