Former Penn State administrators get jail time in Sandusky scandal

<p>It is commonly believed that it is illegal to evict a person &#8212; particularly an elderly and sick person &#8212; in the winter months. This is patently untrue as has been evidenced by the recent eviction of a 70-year-old man, a veteran, with myriad health problems during the past winter from a local high-rise for the elderly.</p><p>The management of the nonprofit corporation that manages the high-rise from which the tenant was evicted did not deem it necessary to contact the tenant&#8217;s family or other emergency contacts.</p><p>This particular story has a happy ending thanks to Mary Ann May, the ombudsman staff at the Area Agency on Aging and the compassionate and professional staff at River Run Rehabilitation. These dedicated folks cannot be praised too highly.</p><p>The tenant was eventually forced out of his apartment in early February, but he is now living in an apartment managed by the Wilkes-Barre Housing Authority where they put more importance on family/emergency contacts. His physical problems are being attended by regular visits from medical personnel.</p><p>A very tragic scenario was avoided because of this man&#8217;s family and friends and the aforementioned dedicated workers. But one wonders what would have happened to someone lacking those support systems.</p><p>But the fact is that all of this was done legally. </p><p>It is for this reason that we are forming the Elder Alliance to unite Elders and those who aspire to that status in order to petition our lawmakers to pass legislation to protect the elderly, the infirm and the impoverished. </p><p>Join us in the fight for elder power.</p><p><strong>W.
