Edwardsville festival makes pierogies the star

<p class="x_MsoNoSpacing">Scranton/Wilkes-Barre outfielder Clint Frazier was the driving force as the RailRiders routed rival Lehigh Valley on Friday night.</p><p class="x_MsoNoSpacing">The 22-year-old had a pair of blasts, including a three-run shot in a seven-run first inning, as the RailRiders dominated the IronPigs 10-1.</p><p class="x_MsoNoSpacing">The RailRiders rode the wave of a season-best seven-run first inning as they secured their second win of the year at Coca-Cola Park, where the IronPigs (41-20) had won 18 of their last 19 since Scranton/Wilkes-Barre&#8217;s 13-0 victory there on May 3.</p><p class="x_MsoNoSpacing">Frazier&#8217;s three-run homer to the second bullpen in left field highlighted the gaudy first frame. Lead-off man Tyler Wade&#8217;s second hit of the inning, a run-scoring blow to left, chased starter Jake Thompson, who was charged with seven runs on seven hits and a walk. He recorded just two outs on 45 pitches.</p><p class="x_MsoNoSpacing">RailRiders starter Luis Cessa (3-6) tossed a third straight quality start and snapped a string of four straight losing decisions. He gave up one run on five hits and two walks while whiffing six over six innings.</p><p class="x_MsoNoSpacing">Frazier bashed his team-best 11th home run, a one-out solo shot to the grassy seating in left-center, in the eighth. Gleyber Torres rounded out the scoring with a two-run homer to straightaway center in the ninth, his second of the road trip and at Triple-A.</p><p class="x_MsoNoSpacing">Crestwood grad Matt Wotherspoon tossed 2.1 scoreless innings with three strikeouts in his first Triple-A outing of the year.</p><p class="x_MsoNoSpacing">Lehigh Valley infielder Jorge Flores made his professional pitching debut in the ninth.</p><p><strong>Red Sox 7, Bisons 3</strong></p><p>PAWTUCKET, R.I. &#8212; Mike Miller singled three times, and Jalen Beeks allowed just four hits over six innings as the Pawtucket Red Sox beat the Buffalo Bisons.</p><p>Beeks (1-1) picked up the win after he struck out eight and walked one while allowing two runs.</p><p>Pawtucket got on the board first in the third inning when Ryan Court hit a two-run double.</p><p>After Pawtucket added two runs in the fourth, the Bisons cut into the deficit in the sixth inning when Jonathan Diaz scored on an error and Jason Leblebijian hit an RBI single.</p><p>The Red Sox later tacked on three runs in the seventh, including an RBI triple by Court and an RBI single by Bryce Brentz.</p><p><strong>Red Wings 9, Chiefs 3</strong></p><p>ROCHESTER, N.Y. &#8212; Tommy Field had three hits and two RBI for Rochester Red Wings.</p><p>Rochester took the lead in the first when Field hit a two-run double and then scored on a single by ByungHo Park.</p><p>Syracuse answered in the top of the next frame when Pedro Severino hit a three-run home run to tie it up.</p><p>The Red Wings took the lead for good in the sixth when John Ryan Murphy hit an RBI single, bringing home Field.</p><p><strong>Bats 2, Mud Hens 0</strong></p><p>LOUISVILLE, Ky. &#8212; Rob Brantly doubled and singled twice, and Robert Stephenson allowed just one hit over five innings as the Louisville Bats defeated the Toledo Mud Hens.</p><p>Stephenson (1-0) struck out six and walked five to pick up the win.</p><p>Louisville scored its runs when Sebastian Elizalde hit an RBI double in the fourth inning and Phillip Ervin hit an RBI single in the eighth.</p><p>Dustin Molleken (2-1) went two innings, allowing one run and three hits in the International League game. He also struck out one and walked one. Kevin Shackelford retired the side in order for his 10th save of the season.</p><p>The Mud Hens were held scoreless for the fifth time this season, while the Bats&#8217; staff recorded their third shutout of the year.</p><p><strong>Bulls 5, Tides 2</strong></p><p>DURHAM, N.C. &#8212; Jake Bauers hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning, leading the Durham Bulls past the Norfolk Tides.</p><p>The home run by Bauers, part of a four-run inning, gave the Bulls a 3-2 lead before Curt Casali hit a two-run double later in the inning.</p><p>In the bottom of the first, Durham took the lead on a sacrifice fly by Bauers that scored Johnny Field. Norfolk answered in the sixth inning when Craig Gentry hit a two-run home run.</p><p>Durham left-hander Ryan Yarbrough (5-3) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing two runs on five hits over eight innings. Opposing starter Jayson Aquino (1-6) took the loss in the International League game after giving up five runs and six hits over 5.1 innings. Adam Kolarek recorded his second save of the season.</p><p><strong>Clippers 8, Indians 1</strong></p><p>COLUMBUS, Ohio &#8212; Richie Shaffer was a triple short of the cycle, driving home two runs for the Columbus Clippers.</p><p>Yandy Diaz homered and singled with two runs for Columbus.</p><p>Columbus took the lead in the first when Eric Stamets hit an RBI double and then scored on a two-run home run by Shaffer. But Indianapolis answered in the next half-inning when Anderson Feliz hit an RBI single, scoring Barrett Barnes to get within two.</p><p>The Clippers later added runs in four additional innings to put the game out of reach.</p><style>
