ALLENTOWN &#8212; Tyler Wade raised his June batting average a full 27 points in Sunday&#8217;s series finale against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. And he had a .378 batting average for the month coming in.Wade continued to rake, registering his sixth multi-hit game in his last 11 games played, but that wasn&#8217;t enough as the IronPigs (42-21) used a four-run seventh inning to sink the RailRiders (35-25). Scranton/Wilkes-Barre fell 6-4 as the two teams split the four-game series.With his first-inning bunt single, the 22-year-old extended his hitting streak to a season-high 11 games.&#8220;I&#8217;m just trying to be consistent and stick with my plan and not try to do too much,&#8221; Wade said. &#8220;Once you face a guy once or twice you know how he&#8217;s going to attack you and what his pitches does.&#8221;Wade was the perfect lead-off hitter on Sunday.Starting off the inning in the batter&#8217;s box three times, Wade collected hits in each at-bat, and scored on two of them. The one time Wade didn&#8217;t score, he singled up the middle and later stole second base.The shortstop went 3 for 5 with a double, two runs scored and stole his team-high 15th base of the season.&#8220;This is a kid who can hit a ball in the gap, hit the ball out of the park,&#8221; RailRiders manager Al Pedrique said. &#8220;He can do a lot of things &#8212; bunt. He&#8217;s getting a lot better with his bunts for base hits and picking the right times &#8212; that&#8217;s the key. We&#8217;re very pleased where he&#8217;s at right now, and he understands his role. He&#8217;s not trying to do too much.&#8221;Things fell off the rails for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the seventh inning.Sporting a 4-1 lead, RailRiders starter Chance Adams gave up a lead-off triple to IronPigs right fielder Nick Williams, who scored two at-bats later on a wild pitch. Pedrique replaced Adams with a red-hot Tyler Webb after walking the IronPigs&#8217; No. 9 hitter, Jorge Flores, on a full count. But Webb, who owned a 0.52 ERA in his last 17.1 innings pitched, didn&#8217;t have his best stuff Sunday.Lehigh Valley found open holes on the field and rattled off four straight singles. Dylan Cozens&#8217; infield RBI single off of the glove of a diving Greg Bird gave the IronPigs their first lead of the game, 5-4. Williams&#8217; lead-off home run in the eighth inning was the the final nail in the coffin.&#8220;We just didn&#8217;t get a break,&#8221; Pedrique said of the inning. &#8220;He threw strikes and went right after the hitters. I just told (Webb), I said, &#8216;Once and a while you&#8217;re going to have a tough break like (you) did (today) and (you&#8217;re) going to have to turn the page and be ready to go Tuesday.&#8217;&#8221;Bird watchingBird continued his rehab with the RailRiders on Sunday. The 24-year-old went 0 for 2 with with a pair of walks and run scored.However, there was a scare during Bird&#8217;s second at-bat when he fouled a ball off of his right knee. He stayed in the game after being checked out my both Pedrique and trainer Darren London. Bird flew out to deep center to end the at-bat.&#8220;It kind of hit me in a funny spot, so that was the thing&#8221; Bird said, who was wearing a wrap around his leg after the game. &#8220;Kind of like a dead leg or a Charlie horse there for a little bit. Once it wore off and got loose again it was good.&#8221;<ins>While timing is extremely important at the plate, it also plays a role in the field. It was evident Sunday when the first baseman made a running catch in foul territory on a Brock Stassi pop fly in the fifth inning and caught a Flores bunt in the eighth.</ins><ins>&#8220;My first two games in Tampa I felt I was off timing-wise, I felt defensively, but since I&#8217;ve been here and playing regularly, I feel like the timing&#8217;s better,&#8221; Bird said. &#8220;I just feel like I&#8217;m on the ball which ever way it might be, so that&#8217;s good.&#8221;</ins>After 10 rehab games between Double-A Trenton and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, all indications point toward Bird staying with the RailRiders as the team heads back to Moosic for its series against Rochester, which starts Tuesday. Pedrique said he had &#8220;no idea&#8221; when asked about Bird&#8217;s future and that hasn&#8217;t received a call from New York yet.&#8220;That&#8217;s baseball. You just keep playing,&#8221; Bird said of his future. &#8220;I think at this point I feel good.
