LIMA, Ohio &#8212; AIM Media Midwest announced Tuesday that it has purchased the print and online publishing assets and the commercial printing assets of 16 daily newspapers in Ohio and one in West Virginia from Civitas Media, the company that owns the Times Leader Media Group.Civitas CEO Lior Yahalomi said the Times Leader Media Group isn&#8217;t for sale. The group comprises the Times Leader, the Sunday Dispatch of Pittston, the Dallas Post, the Abington Journal and the Weekender.Terms of the sale of the Ohio and West Virginia properties were not disclosed. In conjunction with the transaction, AIM announced that all employees working directly for any of the individual newspaper publications will be hired immediately and continue in their respective positions with the new company.In addition, AIM said it will hire select personnel currently employed by North Carolina-based Civitas in corporate or centralized functions in Ohio after a transition period. Along with the 17 daily newspapers, the sale includes 15 weeklies and several specialty publications, including shoppers and magazines.The largest daily newspaper in the sale group is The Lima News in Ohio. The West Virginia paper is the Point Pleasant Register.&#8220;Civitas is one of the most respected and admired publishing companies principally serving local community markets in the United States,&#8221; said Jeremy L. Halbreich, chairman and CEO of AIM. &#8220;&#8230; We salute their demonstrated commitment and support to these local communities throughout their years of ownership.&#8221;Yahalomi said he is pleased to have AIM acquire the Midwest properties from Civitas.&#8220;I also want to express my thanks to all of our Civitas Ohio and West Virginia employees for their long-term, loyal and conscientious service,&#8221; he said. &#8220;I wish them all the best as they transition to be an integral part of the AIM organization and culture.&#8221;Civitas Media encompasses more than 100 publications, many of which have served their communities for more than a century.AIM Midwest is managed by AIM Media Management of Dallas, Texas.
