<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; The Cabaret in Kingston will cease to exist as a strip club, but could get new life as a sports bar by early next year.</p><p>The Luzerne County District Attorney&#8217;s Office was in court Wednesday trying to win an order to get the club to close for one year due to repeated problems at the property.</p><p>Instead, an agreement was reached between prosecutors and Cabaret owner Jules Greenberg, represented by attorney John Williams.</p><p>Per the agreement, the club at 481 Market St. will close for a period of six months, starting Monday, June 19. Assistant District Attorney Mamie Phillips said the club&#8217;s liquor license will be suspended on that date due to an unrelated matter.</p><p>During the six-month period, Greenberg will transfer his business to son Jay Greenberg, who Phillips said will open his own corporation. She added the transfer of the establishment&#8217;s liquor license will be subject to LCB requirements. Renovations and construction can also be done during the time the place is closed.</p><p>After six months, the business can re-open as a sports bar.</p><p>The agreement will be held in abeyance for a year &#8212; meaning if police determine there has been a violation, prosecutors can move forward with their initial request to close it for a full 12 months.</p><p>According to documents <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/news/656258/curtains-for-the-cabaret-illegal-violent-acts-put-strip-club-in-das-crosshairs" target="_blank">filed in May in Luzerne County Court</a>, a regular police presence coupled with ongoing violations of state liquor laws &#8220;has caused unending suffering, damage, and loss to the residents of the Kingston area.&#8221; The club was cited for violations in 2007, 2008, 2009, 2013, and 2016, according to the complaint.</p><p>Following the hearing, Kingston police chief Michael Krzywicki said the club has been a &#8220;nuisance&#8221; and a &#8220;burden&#8221; to his department.</p><p>Cabaret owner Greenberg and his attorney declined to comment following the hearing.</p><style>
