Wilkes Polish Room hosts annual tea

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Pennsylvania American Water is upgrading water mains throughout Luzerne County dating back to the early 1900s.</p><p>Upgrades are being performed to approximately 6,500 feet of water mains in several Luzerne County communities, according to a news release issued Monday. The upgrades will improve reliability for customers, reduce service disruptions, and increase water flows for firefighting.</p><p>The cost of the system improvements, which replace water mains dating back to 1906, is nearly $1.3 million.</p><p>Contractors recently began replacing four- and six-inch cast-iron water mains with new eight-inch ductile iron pipe in the following areas:</p><p><strong>Plymouth</strong></p><p>&#8226; Parrish Street</p><p>&#8226; Durbin Street</p><p>&#8226; Franklin Street</p><p>&#8226; West Main Street</p><p><strong>Hanover Township</strong></p><p>&#8226; Lewis Street</p><p><strong>Kingston</strong></p><p>&#8226; John Street</p><p><strong>West Wyoming</strong></p><p>&#8226; Evergreen Street</p><p><strong>Wilkes-Barre</strong></p><p>&#8226; Gardner Avenue</p><p>Crews will work weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction. The company expects to complete the water main installation &#8212; including transfer of all customer services, final restoration, and paving &#8212; by late summer.</p><p>During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water and lower than normal water pressure.
