<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Jason Sherry has always been a big fan of food trucks, and he wasn&#8217;t disappointed Friday with the Food Truck Rally that helped kick off this weekend&#8217;s <a href="http://tlgets.me/ks6" target="_blank">RiverFest 2017</a> at Nesbitt Park.</p><p>&#8220;I love it,&#8221; Sherry, of Kingston, said as he dined on some french fries with wife Ellen and son Kieran, 13, listening to the <a href="http://tlgets.me/ks5" target="_blank">Indigo Moon Brass Band</a> belt out some smooth jazz. &#8220;I like the idea of a gathering of food trucks. It reminds me of Friday nights in big cities when they have food truck events.&#8221;</p><p>&#8220;I like that the focus is really on them, too, rather than the food being a background thing at the event. I kind of dig that,&#8221; Sherry added.</p><p>Mike Sabia, general manager of The Cupcake Camper, said business was &#8220;pretty good&#8221; Friday, and the day marked the truck&#8217;s third appearance at RiverFest. Sea salt fudge was the most popular of the 12 varieties of gourmet cupcakes for sale, he said.</p><p>Over at the Taste Time to Love Us truck, Dean Nalaschi said the portabella mushroom sub was Friday&#8217;s hottest seller. The business ran out of them within about 90 minutes.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;re very steady today. We&#8217;re happy with the turnout and we&#8217;re happy that local people and the people who come here are pleased with the food,&#8221; Nalaschi said.</p><p>Also attending were Snook&#8217;s Wings &amp; Things, Southwest Savory Grill and Manning&#8217;s Mobile Ice Cream Shoppe.</p><p>Kingston resident Jim Doherty, who attended with daughter Mo, 7, and son Gram, 14, said he &#8220;came out for the music and food trucks, and I&#8217;m so glad they&#8217;re condensed here in the same spot. This way I don&#8217;t have to walk very far,&#8221; he chuckled.</p><p>And although the food trucks were the big draw Friday, there were plenty of other things to keep visitors interested and entertained, not the least of which was the Susquehanna River itself.</p><p>It was the Sherry family&#8217;s first time at RiverFest, and Ellen appreciated &#8220;getting to see the river from a different perspective&#8221; than just driving over it on a bridge.</p><p>&#8220;It&#8217;s 45 years since the (Agnes) flood, so it&#8217;s great to see the area is still trying to refresh itself and encourage people to come out together,&#8221; Ellen Sherry said. &#8220;We need more of this.&#8221;</p><p>Rolin Bachert, 16, and his sister, Maria Bachert, 17, both of Bloomsburg, said they decided to stop by while visiting family in Wilkes-Barre.</p><p>&#8220;We went to see the animals &#8212; a llama, a bunny, some goats &#8212; and we saw a Native American village display. And it&#8217;s unique because you get to enjoy the music and the view; normally, something like this is in town,&#8221; Maria said.</p><p>John Maday, of the Riverfront Parks Committee, was happy with the turnout despite the threat of rain.</p><p>Maday stressed the mission of the committee is environmental education, awareness, stewardship, advocacy and recreation, and Saturday will bring 30 to 40 environmental exhibitions set up under a 40-by-120-foot tent. &#8220;That&#8217;s basically the core of the event,&#8221; he said.</p><p>Also on site will be the 24th Connecticut Recreated Militia; Suskie Bassmasters showing a tank full of fish caught in the Susquehanna that will later be released; canoe and kayak paddling trips; as well as more live entertainment.</p><style>
