<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Mayor Tony George has released the schedule for &#8220;Mondays at the Market,&#8221; the first time the city&#8217;s Farmers Market will be held two days a week.</p><p>The Monday market will run 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. from July 10 through Oct. 2.</p><p>The traditional Thursday market, meanwhile, runs 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Nov. 16.</p><p>On Mondays, you can expect the same vendors and farmers, plus health and wellness programs on nutrition, disease prevention and physical activity.</p><p>Besides the schedule announcement, George was busy with some other business.</p><p>On Thursday, he served not only as mayor, but as official milkshake server.</p><p>Milkshakes were offered free to market patrons Thursday to promote a dairy program for a local food bank.</p><p>&#8220;Everybody wants chocolate today,&#8221; George said as he passed out straws and clear plastic cups filled with the thick and creamy treat.</p><p>Opening day was the ideal opportunity to showcase the city and especially the downtown, the mayor added.</p><p>&#8220;We have to bring the people in to show them what we have,&#8221; said George.</p><p>He was accompanied by his wife, Maureen, and grandchildren: Alex Kane, 20, and his brother Josh, 14; Joe Schatzel, 18; and 15-month-old Emily Garcia George.</p><p><ins>For other local news stories, <a href="https://www.timesleader.com/category/local" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">click here</a></ins><ins>.</ins> </p><style>
