Dallas Lions Club installs officers

<p>Last month, Dallas became just the second Wyoming Valley Conference team to win a state baseball title. But beyond the high school ranks, the area&#8217;s championship history in the sport dates much further back.</p><p>On July 29, the Ashley All-Stars will celebrate the 50th anniversary of their 1967 Pennsylvania state championship.</p><p>Led by co-managers Don Komoroski and Buddy Yenchak, the All-Stars &#8212; who were comprised of players from the Central League&#8217;s Ashley team along with semi-pros from throughout the Wyoming Valley &#8212; advanced to the National Baseball Congress Tournament in Wichita, Kansas.</p><p>Players from that squad, as well as two Central League champions &#8212; the 1965 West Side team and the 1966 Glen Lyon Condors &#8212; will be honored at a celebration in the Hanover section of Nanticoke hosted by Komoroski, who managed all three teams.</p><p>In retrospect, Komoroski&#8217;s three-peat with three different squads remains a standout achievement in local baseball history &#8212; a Wyoming Valley classic.</p><p>Ten of the 24 players on Ashley&#8217;s title team would ultimately sign professional contracts.</p><p>Dennis Auckland, Hank Bunnell, Gene Domzalski, Jim Kobi, George (Nipper) Nowakowski, Steve Piestrak, Rich Rodeghiero, Johnny Wojcik, and Craig Anderson all played in the minor leagues, with Anderson also pitching in the major leagues.
