NEWPORT TWP. &#8212; The Newport Township Community Organization, in partnership with the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 539 and supported by CEO, sponsor a food distribution from 6 to 7 p.m. on the fourth Wednesday of every month at the Newport Township American Legion, 62 Newport Street, Glen Lyon.This event is for Newport Township residents only and pre-registration is necessary at least four- days prior to distribution by calling Lorrie, 570-736-7177, to ensure availability of food.Returning food bank customers need to be re-certified for the coming year. This process is similar to the initial registration process. An additional day has been set aside to make this process easier for clients and to prevent a backlog at the July 26 food bank.From 6 to 7 p.m., July 17, service coordinators will be at the American Legion in Glen Lyon to accept re-application information. Applicants must bring proof of residency and a form of identification for all household members being claimed.
