<p>PITTSTON TWP. &#8212; For the second straight month, the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport has set an all-time record for passenger travel.</p><p>At the June meeting of the airport board, Executive Director Carl Beardsley Jr. reported that May was the best month in history for passenger travel &#8212; 24,088 to be exact &#8212; a 17.5 percent increase over May 2016.</p><p>At Thursday&#8217;s meeting, Beardsley reported that June saw 290 more passengers travel through the airport &#8212; setting a new record of 24,378 &#8212; the highest one-month total in the airport&#8217;s 70-year history.</p><p>Beardsley said additional flights to Charlotte by American Airlines and Allegiant Airlines&#8217; twice-weekly flights to Tampa/St. Petersburg are the main reasons for the significant increase. He said travelers now have more choices, and fares have been very competitive.</p><style>
