MOOSIC &#8212; With the players on the New York Yankees&#8217; 40-man roster traded at the deadline, and only two coming back, a spot has suddenly opened.And the two most-likely players vying for the spot &#8212; Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders outfielders Billy McKinney and Jake Cave &#8212; continued to make good cases for themselves Tuesday night.Cave, who was named the International League Player of the Month on Tuesday, tallied a pair of hits to push his hitting-streak to 16 games, while McKinney, who was named the International League Batter of the Month on Monday, hit a three-run blast over the wall in right to provide Scranton/Wilkes-Barre its first lead of the game. McKinney&#8217;s seventh Triple-A home run of the season was all the RailRiders (69-39) would need, en route to a 5-1 win over the Bisons (45-64).&#8220;I guess we&#8217;re lucky that we have the combination going. Pilittere before batting practice on Tuesday, and it translated directly into the game later that night. Cave was 2 for 3 with a walk and two runs scored.McKinney, who posted a .440 batting average last week, put a good swing on a pitch in the fourth inning, driving a ball to deep center but it was caught. In his next at-bat he made sure the ball didn&#8217;t land in a Bisons&#8217; glove.The 22-year-old outfielder finished the game 1 for 4 with the three-run home run.&#8220;I felt like I put a good swing on it. Just, it&#8217;s a deep part of the yard there,&#8221; McKinney said of his fourth-inning fly out. &#8220;I&#8217;m glad I was able to get the one out in the sixth though because we were down 1-0. I really wanted to do something because we had no outs. I was trying to do something to get the guys over to second and third. I&#8217;m just glad it went out.&#8220;I definitely like to watch what they&#8217;re throwing Jake and (Mike). I like to see how they&#8217;re trying to attack them, so that&#8217;s pretty big. Those guys are just swinging the heck out of the bat this year. It&#8217;s really fun to watch.&#8221;Chance Adams didn&#8217;t have his best stuff, but he continued to battle.Even when the RailRiders right-hander was missing his spots, struggling to find his off-speed pitches, the 22-year-old was able to limit the Bisons to just one run. Adams went six innings and gave up just the single run on five hits, four walks and a hit batsman.Adams improved his record to 7-3.&#8220;It&#8217;s nice because that&#8217;s what you have to do in order to compete at the higher level,&#8221; Pedrique said of Adams&#8217; ability to battle. &#8220;You have to figure it out when you don&#8217;t have your best stuff. You have to figure it out.
