<p>UNION TWP. &#8212; A veteran Northwest Area School Board member who has served more than 16 years submitted his resignation at a special meeting this week.</p><p>Randy Tomasacci&#8217;s letter of resignation was read into the record and unanimously accepted on the vote of eight other directors. That creates a vacancy that chairman Michael Kreidler said could be filled at the Aug. 23 board meeting.</p><p>Kreidler said Tomasacci&#8217;s term was scheduled to run through 2019.</p><p>He said the person selected to succeed him will serve out that term.</p><p>Tomasacci, of Huntington Township, yielded the board presidency at the start of 2017 to Kreidler.</p><p>This past spring, he ran an unsuccessful campaign for Shickshinny district judge.</p><p>Tomasacci formerly served as a pastor at Assembly of God churches in Muncy Valley and Shickshinny.</p><p>In other business this week:</p><p>&#8226; The board accepted the resignation of Jennifer Oiler, who has been serving as the director of special education. She is leaving Northwest for a position at the nearby Millville Area School District in Columbia County, according to published reports.</p><p>In conjunction with Oiler&#8217;s resignation, the board appointed Mary Agnes Kratz as acting director of special education at a daily pay rate of $300.</p><p>&#8226; John McDermott was hired as an elementary health and physical education teacher.</p><p>The vote to approve McDermott was 6-2.</p><p>&#8226; It was announced by Director Leigh Bonczewski that the building and grounds committee will discuss projects that may entail field turf at the high school football field at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21.</p><p>Other topics that could potentially be discussed include a synthetic track surface, new lighting and new bleachers.</p><style>
