With late surge, Toczko chases down his first Jack Daniels Mile title

<p>EDWARDSVILLE &#8212; After 36 years, Ollie&#8217;s American Restaurant is changing ownership.</p><p>The longtime owners, David and Edna Tevet, decided that it was time to retire so that they could spend more time with their children and grandchildren. The process was made easy when, David said, they found a good new owner.</p><p>&#8220;We wanted somebody younger than us, somebody willing to run it the same way &#8230; and continue for another 36 years,&#8221; David laughed.</p><p>The restaurant has been purchased by Matthew Borwick, who has been operating The Atrium Restaurant on Market Street in Kingston for four years. He started at Ollie&#8217;s this week, but Atrium will continue to run full capacity as well.</p><p>&#8220;I have management in place over there. I&#8217;m sure I&#8217;ll be back and forth to both places, but currently most of my time will be focused on this new project,&#8221; Borwick said.</p><p>&#8220;We&#8217;re taking over something that&#8217;s really great and we&#8217;re just planning on continuing to serve high-quality, fresh food and keep the tradition going,&#8221; he continued.</p><p>In the first few months under the new owner, David and his wife will stay to make the transition as seamless as possible &#8212; and even after that, they won&#8217;t be strangers to the restaurant, he said.</p><p>David stressed that nothing will change &#8212; the staff will remain, the menu will be the same, and gift and frequent diner cards will continue to be honored.</p><p>&#8220;People always worry (that things will change) &#8230; it will be exactly the same,&#8221; he said, and is confident that what makes the restaurant special will not be compromised.</p><p>&#8220;Everything is fresh, very tasty, good service and reasonable prices. That&#8217;s what makes it the best,&#8221; he said.</p><p>&#8220;(When) you come into something that&#8217;s successful, you don&#8217;t need to worry about changing things,&#8221; Borwick said. &#8220;You just want to keep everything going.&#8221;</p><p>David added that Ollie&#8217;s award-winning &#8220;Dinner for Kids&#8221; program will continue to run under the new owner, and that he and his wife will continue to work to expand it to other areas.</p><p>When the couple purchased the restaurant in 1981, the menu received a minor overhaul, but the name, spirit and customer base stayed the same. One might say David and Edna are just passing the torch again.</p><p>The restaurant is located in front of the West Side Mall, 84 S. Wyoming Ave., Edwardsville. It is open for every meal, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., 7 days a week.</p><style>
