Huff, puff, pass? AG’s pot fury not echoed by task force

<p class="x_p1">DALLAS &#8212; April Fronzoni-Bertin did something rarely seen in local road racing. She won overall honors in the Pauly Friedman Family 5K Run on Sunday at Misericordia University, scoring the best time &#8212;19 minutes, 36 seconds &#8212; among the women and men.</p><p class="x_p1">The 35-year-old from Ann Arbor, Mich., and formerly of Larksville, scored a 32-second, come-from-behind victory over second-place finisher Cade Corcoran, 17, of Wilkes-Barre.</p><p class="x_p1">&#8220;I set a quick pace right from the get-go,&#8221; Fronzoni-Bertin said. &#8220;I maintained it for a while. Then I started tracking down the front runner. Once I passed him, I said to myself, &#8216;Now don&#8217;t let him pass you.&#8217; That&#8217;s when I turned on the burners.&#8221;</p><p class="x_p1">&#8220;I tried to keep up with her after she took the lead, but I just couldn&#8217;t catch her,&#8221; said Corcoran, who is a senior at Coughlin High School, where he runs track and cross country. In the past he had played baseball for the Crusaders.</p><p class="x_p1">Fronzoni-Bertin was vacationing at Ocean City, Md., with her family when she read about the Pauly Friedman race and decided to give it a go. She was glad she did.</p><p class="x_p1">Fronzoni-Bertin was on the diving team, played soccer and field hockey for Wyoming Valley West High School.</p><p class="x_p1">She played forward for the University of Michigan field hockey team and was part of the 2001 team that won the national championship. At the time, it was the first women&#8217;s national championship scored in any sport by the Wolverines.</p><p class="x_p1">Eric Klemchak, 23, of Bear Creek Township, finished third in 20:40. Nadalie Solomon, 29, of Nuangola, finished fourth, 17 seconds behind Klemchak.</p><p class="x_p1">Solomon won the second annual Navient Ladders &amp; Laces 5K Run in April. Solomon is a past winner of the Red Cross Run for the Red 5K, Bear Creek 5K and the Gate of Heaven 5K.</p><p class="x_p1">Proceeds from the event go to Help Line/211, a program of Family Services Association of Northeastern Pennsylvania. Help Line is an information and referral service and a first response point for crisis calls serving 17 counties. </p><p class="x_p1">Family Services CEO Mike Zimmerman said that this year&#8217;s goal for the race was to raise about $10,000. When the final count is in, and if the event meets expectations, the race will have raised about $80,000 over the its nine-year history.</p><p class="x_p1">Help Line/211 operates around the clock every day of the year.
