Luzerne County releases newly compiled list of real estate holdings

Sirens around nuclear power plant to be tested Thursday

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Nathan Torna, who will be 4 next month, weighed in at 40 pounds &#8212; which he was told at the crowded Back to School Wellness Fair at Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre Tuesday &#8212; meant he should limit his school backpack to 4 pounds.</p><p>One-tenth your weight? Serious backpackers may want to leave behind the tent, sleeping bag, and food.</p><p>The lobby and adjacent hallways were crammed shortly after the fair opened at 4 p.m., with youngsters and their parents taking turns at opportunities for face-painting, weight checks, bean bag toss and simulations of distracted driving &#8212; more, one assumes, for someone like Nathan&#8217;s mom Shirley than for the lad who is still at least 12 years away from getting behind the wheel.</p><p>The event included about 25 stations with interactive opportunities and information, Communication Specialist Megan Sobieski said. And that didn&#8217;t include the fire truck parked outside.</p><p>Mason Kilburn, 4, seemed to take some extra time at the table where he got to examine a teddy bear. Wearing a mask that covered almost his entire face, and a hair net that pulled down over his eyes (fortunately, he could see through it), he checked the bear&#8217;s temperature, listened to its heart, and took its blood pressure.</p><p>&#8220;He wants to be a doctor,&#8221; said mother Cora Brady, a nurse&#8217;s aide studying to be a nurse.</p><p>&#8220;Dr. Mason&#8221; then held up the bear for an X-ray, and was handed an image apparently showing a skeleton in what had, until that moment, seemed a pretty floppy specimen. As a bonus, he got to take the cuddly critter home, as well as the X-ray image.</p><p>Proof positive that, at age 4, he is already practicing &#8220;bear bones&#8221; medicine.</p><style>
