<p>SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT &#8212; Abbigail Schultz has been going to the Little League Baseball World Series for seven years, regularly attending the Grand Slam Parade and taking in the tournament&#8217;s opening day.</p><p>After Friday night, Schultz has a new favorite memory of the world&#8217;s largest youth sporting event.</p><p>The 14-year-old from Swoyersville was on the field at Lamade Stadium, singing the national anthem prior to North State from Greenville, N.C. using a combined perfect game to defeat Sioux Falls, S.D., 6-0.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve always loved the Little League World Series,&#8221; Schultz said. &#8220;I have my lanyard. I have my pins. I go every single year.&#8221;</p><p>This year, the Schultz family moved the schedule back one day for their Williamsport trip to fit Abbigail&#8217;s singing schedule.</p><p>An early arrival added to the nerves because she was on site when rain came and altered the early-day international schedule.</p><p>&#8220;I got nervous when they said they were postponing games,&#8221; Schultz said.</p><p>Soon, the weather cleared, early games got played and Schultz got to spend a day getting a closer look at the series, meeting the teams and sitting in the special reserved section behind home plate.</p><p>&#8220;I felt really special when I got the pass for Section 1 and felt special going under the stadium and through the dugout,&#8221; she said.</p><p>Schultz is no stranger to singing the national anthem or performing in general. She keeps active as a singer, dancer and musical theater performer with a growing list of local credits.</p><p>Singing in front of a crowd of 9,923 at a world-famous event that she has grown up attending, however, will be memorable for the incoming Holy Redeemer High School freshman.</p><p>&#8220;The Little League World series is one of the biggest opportunities I&#8217;ve had,&#8221; she said, comparing it only to a performance of High School Musical in New York City. &#8220;This is the biggest opportunity I&#8217;ve had with the national anthem.&#8221;</p><p>It was one that Schultz had to pursue to make happen.</p><p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve always wanted to do it,&#8221; Schultz said. &#8220;I sent in the audition tape in January and I got the call in June asking if I wanted to do it. Of course, I said &#8216;yes&#8217;.&#8221;</p><p>After two years of T-ball and one of coach pitch, Schultz leaves baseball to her younger brother Zachary, a 10-year-old who plays in the Swoyersville Little League.</p><p>She sticks to performing and enjoys sports as a spectator.</p><p>The friendly reception before and positive comments after her anthem performance from the Southeast Region champs from North Carolina give Schultz split allegiances for the remainder of this year&#8217;s series.</p><p>She said she will be cheering on the Mid-Atlantic team &#8211; the region includes Pennsylvania and is represented by Holbrook from Jackson, N.J. this season &#8211; and the Southeast champs.</p><p><strong>Mexico 13, Europe-Africa 0</strong></p><p>Mexico jumped out to an early 2-0 lead thanks to a RBI double by Saul Soto and an RBI single off the bat of Jorge Garcia.</p><p>But the team really broke open the game with a six-run second inning. Isaac Miranda and Andre Garza both homered in the frame.</p><p>While he didn&#8217;t get the start, Rosendo Cantu earned the win for Mexico, pitching a perfect inning, striking out three.</p><p>Soto went 4 for 4 in the win.</p><p><strong>Mid-Atlantic 15, Great Lakes 5</strong></p><p>Tied at five in the top of the third inning, Mid-Atlantic&#8217;s Chris Andrews&#8217; RBI single broke the game open.</p><p>Mid-Atlantic drove the nail in the coffin with a nine-run fourth inning. Chris Cartnick homered in the frame while Charlie Meglio singled and Ryan Kinsman doubled.</p><p>Drew Hill and Joey Randazzo each drove in a run for the Great Lakes.</p><style>
