Police: Man tried to pull officer’s gun during arrest at Sherman Hills

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; After about a two-hour search, the city fire department located the source of a gas leak that caused a downtown office building to be evacuated Tuesday morning.</p><p>According to Wilkes-Barre Fire Chief Jay Delaney, a call came in at 8:01 a.m. that there was a strong odor of natural gas in the Wilkes-Barre Center building, 39 Public Square. The building sits between Rodano&#8217;s &#8212; which also was evacuated &#8212; and Dunkin&#8217; Donuts.</p><p>Delaney said PG Energy was called to the scene to assist the fire department in determining where the leak was coming from.</p><p>The source was found to be a stove in Rodano&#8217;s kitchen, Delaney said.</p><p>&#8220;That&#8217;s where the natural gas was leaking,&#8221; Delaney said. &#8220;Once it was detected, PG Energy tagged it and ordered Rodano&#8217;s to have it repaired immediately. The leak was close to the air-duct system, causing the odor to travel to the adjacent building (Wilkes-Barre Center).&#8221;</p><p>After the source was located, Delaney said the Wilkes-Barre Center building was checked, and no natural-gas issues were found. He said the nearly 100 employees were allowed back into the building to return to work at about 10 a.m.</p><p>&#8220;The employees exited the building orderly,&#8221; Delaney said of the evacuation. &#8220;They were never in any danger. And PG Energy responded quickly when called.&#8221;</p><p>Delaney said it took firefighters more than an hour to locate the source of the leak.</p><p>&#8220;Every floor was swept, and the readings have all been normal,&#8221; Delaney said before allowing the employees to return to work.</p><p>While the buildings were being searched, the employees stood across the street on Public Square awaiting approval to return to work or to go home.</p><style>
