<p>PITTSTON TWP. &#8212; The recent Northeastern Pennsylvania Air Show held at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport lost $70,000, but airport board members Thursday praised the effort and vowed to hold another as soon as possible.</p><p>The board couldn&#8217;t say when the next air show would be held, but Chairman Tim McGinley said it won&#8217;t take 17 years to schedule, referring to the last air show held at the airport before 2017. All that said, he doubts a show will be scheduled for next year.</p><p>Carl Beardsley, the airport&#8217;s executive director, said the final numbers are not in, but an unaudited report shows a loss of $70,000.</p><p>&#8220;The good news is 25,000 people attended the air show,&#8221; Beardsley said. &#8220;We had 10,000 people on Saturday (Aug. 12) and 15,000 on Sunday (Aug. 13). And the event was affordable to allow families to have an enjoyable day.&#8221;</p><p>Tickets sold for $20 for ages 13 and up, $15 for military personnel and kids ages 6 to 12. Children 5 and under were admitted free.</p><p>&#8220;The economic impact on the region was immense,&#8221; said Lackawanna County Commissioner Patrick O&#8217;Malley, a member of the airport board. &#8220;Everybody here at the airport should be very proud to be able to present this fantastic event to the community.&#8221;</p><p>Beardsley said area hotels were fully booked, restaurants were crowded and other businesses benefited as well.</p><p>Several Luzerne and Lackawanna county nonprofits volunteered to be food vendors at the show and raised money for their organizations:</p><p>Pittston Area Band Boosters, Brick United Methodist Church, Duryea Boy Scout Troop 285, Wyoming Valley West High School Marching Band Parent Association, Marywood University Aviation Management Program, Riverside Vikings PTZ, Dunmore High School Student Activities Cheer Squad, Keystone Karma, Lackawanna Valley Scale Modelers, Old Forge High School Spirit Elite, Quarterback Club, Lady Devils Basketball and Cross Country clubs, and Riverside Vikings Helping Vikings.</p><p>&#8220;This event gives those of us in public service, great pride and great satisfaction,&#8221; McGinley said. &#8220;This is what it&#8217;s all about &#8212; doing something good for the community. All the planning and hard work that went into the air show was well worth it.&#8221;</p><p>McGinley said the board would be discussing when it would be feasible to do another show.</p><p><strong>Extension for director</strong></p><p>In other business Thursday:</p><p>&#8226; Beardsley was given a contract extension that starts Jan. 1, 2018, and runs through 2020. He will receive $123,000 per year and will receive a 2 percent increase in the second and third years of the deal. He will also get $400 per month as an automobile allowance.</p><p>O&#8217;Malley praised Beardsley after the board voted 5-0 to approve the contract.</p><p>&#8220;Since you have been here, this airport has become way more than it was three years ago when you arrived,&#8221; O&#8217;Malley said. &#8220;Your leadership has elevated everyone here.&#8221;</p><p>Beardsley thanked the board and proceeded to report the airport has set records for passenger travel for the third straight month. He said in July, enplanements increased 21.7 percent to 25,671, an increase over July 2016&#8217;s number of 21,101.</p><p>Beardsley also reported the airport&#8217;s net income for July totaled $103,558, compared to $80,980 for July 2016.</p><p>&#8226; The board approved a contract for rehabilitation of the parking garage to Krisha Construction, low bidder, at $634,000. Desman Associates was hired to monitor the project at $41,500.</p><p>Beardsley also noted the demolition of the former terminal building has been completed.</p><style>
