Misericordia touts ‘inter-professional’ training for health care students

<p>WILKES-BARRE &#8212; Pennsylvania CareerLink is rolling out the Northeast Pennsylvania Pre-Apprenticeship Training Program that offers young adults and dislocated workers an opportunity to study a trade without incurring the tuition costs of a traditional college education.</p><p>According to Christine Jensen, director at the Wilkes-Barre CareerLink ofice, the 130-hour program includes four specific components: Industrial Math for the Trades, Basic Construction, Work Readiness and Instruction in Safety.</p><p>Participants will receive two additional certifications in forklift and ladder safety.</p><p>She said out-of-school youth or dislocated workers are eligible to sign up for the training program at their local CareerLink office.</p><p>Jensen said there are also apprenticeship training programs available in Northeast Pennsylvania that help disadvantaged workers or entry-level employees who need additional job training to acquire the skills to be successful.</p><p>&#8220;This unique program will provide 50 local young adults ages 18-24 or dislocated workers an opportunity to gain the knowledge and experience necessary to pursue a career in the building trades,&#8221; Jensen said. &#8220;However, the program covers topics that are also vital components of a career in manufacturing.&#8221;</p><p>Classes are scheduled to begin in October at the Wilkes-Barre Area Career and Technical Center, 350 Jumper Road.
