Penn State, Pitt keep same approaches headed into Saturday’s showdown

Congress returns, faces pressing issues including Harvey aid

<p>SCRANTON &#8212; The Diocese of Scranton will hold a special monetary collection for Hurricane Harvey victims this weekend at all churches throughout the 11-county diocese.</p><p>The collection will be done Saturday and Sunday during the celebration of Mass.</p><p>The diocese is responding to a request from the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, an organization that oversees many aspects of the Catholic Church in this country, though does not possess the authority of the Vatican.</p><p>The USCCB asked each diocese in the United States to conduct an emergency collection to &#8220;support the humanitarian and recovery efforts of Catholic Charities USA, and to provide pastoral and rebuilding support to impacted dioceses through the USCCB,&#8221; according to a media release from the Diocese of Scranton</p><p>&#8220;This storm of historic proportions has caused great hardship for so many people,&#8221; noted Bishop Joseph C. Bambera. &#8220;I ask all of us to offer prayers and support as we accompany our sisters and brothers on their long and difficult road to recovery.&#8221;</p><style>
